Looks like he's being released by Arsenal. WYHHB? A big yes from me.

He rejected a contract offer from Rovers to go and play in Arsenal stiffs on more money. Tells me a lot about his character so a big no from me.

I can imagine most players at that age would take the chance of playing for arsenal for higher wages. It doesn't tell much about his personality at all imo.

It suggests to me he thought he was good enough to make it? Which he almost did given he's been a sub on a few occasions.

Yeah I would, our club was a totally different place when he left, and he had some good times with our youth team. Four years at Arsenal alongside experiences on loan, 22 years old and a local boy - it would be great to re-sign him.

If he wasn't a former Rovers player would you want him? A couple of short loan spells in L2 where at times he's struggled.

Tells me he was an ambitious confident young man - things most parents would want their children to be. Whether I would want him back I leave to DC's judgement - but probably totally unaffordable even if he wanted him.

Macey did pretty well at Luton. Couple of man of the match performances before he was recalled. Maybe he'll go back there, but we could do a lot worse, in my opinion.

At the end of the day he got nowhere near the arsenal 1st team and has played a handful of games in the lower leagues before being released as he is not good enough. I hate it when young players have their heads turned by big clubs and their PL money and I honestly believe that most damage their careers for short term financial gain when if they stayed and played regular competitive football they would stand a far better chance of making it. You say he was young and ambitious, I say he was young and niaive.

Was a poisonous atmosphere at the club and he was nowhere near the first team with us. Just turned 19 and Arsenal come calling. Won't find many turning that opportunity down.

If there was a spectrum of disloyalty then he would certainly be at the opposite end compared to the snake. So yes, if DC brought him back then that would be fine by me.

He wasn't near the Rovers first team so he left to better himself at a club with some of the best training facilities in the world. Made the Arsenal bench a few times in important games but does anyone really expect a young lad to challenge Cech and Ospina?

Actually put like that I think I agree with you. The Rovers he left were a shambles, I was thinking more in terms of where we are now which is wrong because the circumstances in which he left were very different to what they are now. I stand by my view that most young players leaving to join one of the big boys is more often than not a mistake though.

You say he was young and ambitious, I say he was young and niaive. When you're young you're allowed to be naive as you put it. Why should footballers be any different to anyone else carving out a career and wanting to better themselves? So he had to stay at what was then a rag bag club to display loyalty - that would be an overdose of naivety. Was Sweeney naive to leave Wimbledon to join Stoke and is any other young player come to that naive in leaving second/third rate clubs and looking to better themselves and become better players at top rate Academies in the Premiership. Every young footballers dream I would suggest. You clearly have no idea what reserve team players at top Premiership clubs are paid.

I wonder if Scott Sinclair with all his millions in the bank agrees with that view? Most young kids dream of playing in the Premiership not scraping a living at a Div 1 club plus for every Tom Lockyer's there's a Jamie Lucas or ten who still didn't make the grade. Plus if they don't make there's usually another Div 1/2 club ready to offer them a contract. Was this "fake news" anyway as he's still got a year left on hs contract? dailycannon.com/2017/06/matt-macey-future-at-arsenal/

Big yes from me. We haven't had stability in the GK role for a long time. At a great age to continue developing with the club and still a few lads here like Ellis, Lockyer and Clarke who played with him previously so he should fit in easily.

I was in attendance at the youth final at the Mem sponsored by the FFSC. It was quite obvious to me and no doubt others who were there that Matt and his parents were being courted by Dave Bessant, he was all over Matt and his parents in the bar after the game. It came as no big surprise to me when Arsenal came calling. Some may say it was naive of the young man, but when your parents are at your side and someone with great contacts courts you its easy to see why he left for a chance with a top Premier league side.
