Btw on the topic of players/scouting, I'd like to see us keep eyes on the market in Scotland and Ireland. The latter in particularly as Preston have shown there's tonnes of great players in the Irish league, available for cheap and would likely be willing to come to us due to location, league status and probable pay rise. One Scottish player I'd LOVE us to go after is Lawrence Shankland at Ayr. Scored 29 in 33 last season and so far has 28 in 24. Just recently turned down a move to the Belgian second tier and said he's "motivated by game time, not money" so perhaps something we could offer that Championship clubs can't. Either way, probably out of our league but hell of a goalscorer. I still wish we had gone for Gavin Whyte (now a full Northern Ireland Int.) and Mark Sykes (Northern Ireland U21 captain) who I was banging on about for ages that eventually joined Oxford. Nottingham Forest set to launch £2m bid for Northern Ireland winger Gavin Whyte? www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/international/nottingham-forest-set-to-launch-2m-bid-for-northern-ireland-winger-gavin-whyte-38171314.html

Wouldn't mind us rivalling them and making him an offer.

Newcastle release former England U20 winger Callum Roberts. The season just gone he scored 9 goals and created 6 assists from 15 Premier League 2 appearances, scored 3 goals and created 2 assists from 5 appearances in the EFL Trophy and scored in the FA Cup.

Probably unrealistic, but if his wages were affordable and he was willing to drop down, I would give David Nugent a 2 year deal. He may be 34, but he has kept himself fit and I reckon he could have a similar impact to someone like Walters when he joined us in the latter stages of his career.

Transfermarkt says Chelsea U23 captain Josh Grant is being released this summer. The versatile centre back has represented England at U18 and U20 level in the past and I reckon he could be a decent addition for us.
Another centre back, Joseph Colley, is also reportedly being released and would be worth considering. He has represented Sweden at U15, U16, U17, U18 and U19 level.

The promising Cirencester Town winger Owen Windsor (mentioned earlier in the thread) also did ok for Hartpury and scored with his weaker right foot (see below). He also scored a screamer for the England Schoolboys U18 side on Friday and then came off the bench on Saturday to win a penalty for Cirencester Town. I see 17-year-old Owen Windsor made his first start for Cirencester Town in the Southern League at the weekend and scored a goal in an important game against Evesham United. I've seen him three times this season (twice for the England Schoolboys side and once for Hartpury College) and he has impressed each time. A name to keep an eye on and definitely one the club should be monitoring for the development squad. gaschat.co.uk/post/487652Here he is scoring for Hartpury College: West Bromwich Albion beat Bristol City to signing of Owen Windsor. www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/west-bromwich-albion-beat-bristol-2950693

Hopefully we are keeping an eye on Cirencester Town's 17-year-old striker Levi Irving. He scored 20 goals in the National League U19 Alliance last season and made his first team debut late in the Southern League towards the end of the season. Represented Wiltshire U18s.

Just seen Regan Poole has been released by man utd. On loan at Newport last season and had a decent season. Young Welsh defender. Right back or centre half. Would love us to have a go at getting him.

Long shot: but perhaps Wes Foderingham of Rangers on loan might work.
Seems due a move and has indicated he’d like to start. He’a probably championship standard but must championship clubs have there keeper and there are limited starting births available.

If we can unlock the potential that released 19-year-old Glen McAuley previously showed for the Liverpool U18s then he might be worth a deal. 25 goals from 45 appearances at that level.

I like Poole, lots of potential and looked a very solid performer last season. If wage demands were sensible I think he would be a great player to replace James Clark, a player who could play across the back line and offer competition to our new signing little and our central defenders

Got the chance to see Dan Sweeney in action when we played them in this FA Cup this year, big lad and very confident about his abilities on the ball but did get caught out a few times, needed to work on his positioning but could be a good player over time. Quite like the look of Wrexham's CB Jake Lawlor, has been pivotal in the heart of their defence this season and one of the best defenders at that level, could definitely play higher up. A few other National League defenders to keep an eye on are CB Laurence Maguire at Chesterfield, CB or LB Jonathan Mellish at Gateshead and CB Dan Happe at Leyton Orient, who are all highly promising. Shrewsbury tracking Happe apparently. www.shropshirestar.com/sport/football/shrewsbury-town-fc/2019/06/08/shrewsbury-town-running-the-rule-over-highly-rated-leyton-orient-defender-dan-happe/
