the player i mean not the boring manager. as a child i grew up with harold jarman on the left wing all class and guile with a rocket shot to match. But on the right wing was this young winger ray graydon,so exiting with devastating pace that put the fear of god into defenders. But sometimes full backs stood up to ray and he would take the ball at great pace right across the pitch to the left wing without going 1 inch forward and the crowd would laugh and all the players on the pitch would be confused! Anyone else remember the right winger ray graydon who went onto better things but was was fun and funny to watch?

Loved this squad as well especially in those games v Villa - Graydon was quick but I remember he had a bit of a funny run ?

Remember this squad well. A young "Francis" Prince looking like he would rob his own granny. And wasn't Johnny Petts tiny? Can't recall Gordon Marsland doing a great deal, think he arrived around the same time as Tom Stanton. As for Ray Graydon, remember his crossfield runs in particular - he had plenty of pace but rarely in a forward direction. Some bloody good players there, sadly a few no longer with us.

Happy days UTG I was at that game,i can even remember their centre forward alex dawson. After i thought of him i googled him to see if it was possible that he played against us and he did play for brighton at that time. I cant be sure that he played and scored against just seem to remember that,i was about 10 years old then.

I liked his successor Kenny Stephens better.

Was always referred to as "Greedy Graydon" in our house! In the days when match of the day rarely ventured into the third tier they picked us at Eastville for the second feature, needless to say that for the cameras Greedy was at his best and scored two. Even though we'd gone to the game I was allowed to stay up late to see how MOTD covered it! I still rate that squad as the best team to watch in my years of supporting them Jarman, Wayne Jones and Stubbs were on fire in the late sixties...and then Carl Gilbert came in for the underrated Ronaldson and had a blinding first season. Trouble was in those days we were great at home and a pushover away. Shame that team had to be largely broken up ..... but then some new arrivals usurped them ....some blokes called Warboys, Bannister, Dobson and Stephens !

Yes, remember him well, pace and could score a goal or two but was very greedy with the ball as well... 'Greedy Graydon' some used to call him also remember he was a bit of a grump when youngsters asked for autographs.

Gordon Marsland was a rare signing for a fee in those days, £7000 from Carlisle I recall and there were big hopes and expectation but soon drifted out of the team. Petts was small and had playered for Arsenal and Reading ...I like Johnny Petts.

Went to Crewe at the start of 1968 season, Ray Grayson think had just broken in to the first team, we got absolutely whopped lost 6-1,Ray out on the right wing, the fullback marking Ray got so tight marked so close he could have squeezed out his black heads

Remember Graydon often beating his fullback then turning full circle and beating him again probably where the name gready came from.As a youngster before he signed for Rovers he would occasionally play in 6 a sides on a full size pitch at Vassalls Park where to be quite honest he was nothing special compared to the other lads. Fair play to him for making a decent career after he left us although I think Godfrey was a great signing at the time to replace him.

It was more for the fact that after beating his man he invariably thought he had the right to shoot however impossible the angle and no matter who was better positioned in the box that led to him being nicknamed greedy. Going to villa was good for him in that respect as Saunders would've soon sorted that out ...or let players like Leonard, Deehan and Andy Gray sort it out for him!!

Our respective parents worked together and I have a page in an autograph book with all the then players which Ray arranged for me.
