Feel free to move mods but feel this is the best place for this...
VAR is Video Assistant Referee for anybody that doesn't know.
I thought it would probably be good bringing it in but having wached some of the Confederations Cup, it seems an absolute farce.
If you have watched some of the confederations cup so far then you will know what I mean. I also don't like the fact you can't hear the officials talking during the video review. Seems v dodgy to me.

I nearly started a thread on this myself while watching the Chile v Cameroon game.
It's bloody awful so far and the ref in that game just completely bottled so many decisions.
Backwards step imo.
Goal line tech works, and they should be using video tech to ban cheats but they need to let actual games just play out.

Not sure how its being run...but should be similar to cricket where each club has the option to call for the video ref on three (?) occasions in the game. Other than that the referee just refs as normal. The managers should be the ones who call for the video ref via the fourth official (who communicates it to the ref on the pitch) Maybe the managers have to hold up a big joker card haha

Yesterday between Mexico and New Zealand there was pretty much a punch up. About 3 or 4 players should have been booked at least. The ref watches it back then just gives a yellow card. Then restarts the game and decides to book another 2 players ages after, I guess on the advice of his assistants. Looked ao amateur.

Massively against VAR coming into football for various reasons. Majority of decisions are made through interpretation so the idea it will eliminate all mistakes at no expense is far off the mark. Goal line tech works as it's black and white and decisions are reached within <2 seconds.

Big no from me.

I believe they are using this in Serie A next season. Be interesting if matches grind to a halt like their political system every time they need to make a decision.

That looks all a bit Mickey Mouse to me as I thought it worked well in the U20's World Cup, particularly for JCS penalty decision. I guess we either learn to not whinge when a ref makes a bad decision or accept VAR's will eventually be introduced for any goal scoring/red card decisions.

Correct result with that MLS review, just took too long.
Plus doesn't look great, an official flapping around with a laptop on a fold up table in the tunnel.
Rugby have it spot on. But they can afford longer breaks in the game.

Review should be done by an off field ref. Unless we want to get home with the milkman doing his rounds.
Imagine being at Fleetwood. The game would finish about 10pm and we'd get home about 2am. No thanks.

Correct result with that MLS review, just took too long. Yeah, technically correct, but do we really want someone getting sent off for every contact like that, and do we really want people throwing themselves to the ground in feigned agony every time in order to bring the ref's attention to it, in order to get it reviewed. It will be ludicrous.

No thanks. Yeah, MLS were experimenting with that in pre-season, I think the actual version for real games will involve an extra official.

The other player should have also got a card for play acting.

Was watching Mexico vs NZ earlier this week, ref used VR to look at full on brawl where it was clear punches/pushes had occurred. The game was stopped for about 4 minutes and in the end resulted in a single player being booked.
It's very excessive in my opinion, it makes you question why even have a ref if every decision could be reviewed anyway?
