Roverdrive where's the evidence we're making 100K+ bids? Saying the Sercombe deal amounted to £150K doesn't mean we paid a £150K transfer, it could be we just paid up the rest of his Oxford contract plus a small transfer fee on top. If DC's got a top 6 budget then why's his strike force next going to be possibly RG, EH, LJ and Nicholls, that's more like a mid table, at best, strike force. Please tell me that you of all people Topper did not just ask me for evidence? Dear God. That's enough Internet for one day.

If these are our top targets then my excitement for the season has been dashed already

Still see Luke James as being a wide midfield player ,not a winger as such . I might guess that DC wants the option of a Bodin type and a Moore type on each side of the pitch. DC will im guessing sign two strikers (Nichols,Godden) of the Snake/Easter mould. An out and out left winger(?) and an attacking wide left midfield player (James) An attacking central midfield player (Sercombe) ,a defensive midfield player (?) A left sided centre back (Sweeney ) A left back (?) and two keepers (Lumley ,?) Seen in this context is signing James such a TERRIBLE thing ? I don't think so. Yes it would be terrible. He was utter sh**e in his preferred position (and has been for 3 seasons) so we should buy him and play him out of position? Er.... OK.

Ian Alexander was originally a winger...gary penrice was a striker but became a midfield player...even Carl Saunders came to Rovers after being played as a defender by Stoke (for some odd reason )..David Pritchard went from fullback to midfield. Oh and finally...the greatest of the lot Geoff Bradford...played in every outfield position at Rovers.

Keith Curle was a winger converted into a centre back and went on to play for England.

Like going to an interview being the worse performer the being called back for the second round. He had long enough to show that he do the job in my opinion.

Rumours they paid £400k for Marriott. They'll probably try and re-coup that for Nichols & James. It'll be interesting to see who scores more next season. Marriott will probably score more than Nichols/James combined. Marriott played against us for both Woking and Luton in recent seasons & I have to admit he looked extremely ordinary! It could be £400k down the pan! UTG

I prefer Marriott over Nichols/James, but I have to admit 400k seems slightly steep, although in the current crazy transfer climate...maybe not.

What crazy climate? Apart from a couple of clubs are any Div 1 clubs actually paying decent transfer fees?
How can Posh turn down a transfer fee offer from us for LJ, it's like us turning down an offer for Gosling last summer, as what other club is going to pay a transfer fee for a player who scored 0 league goals last season, and hardly scored in the previous two seasons.

Why on earth we would consider signing Luke James, transfer fee or not is beyond me. After all he failed to score a single goal for us and when given an opportunity to score from the spot in a game already won, he even failed to get off the mark then. How people could consider him to be one of four or five strikers in our squad for the forthcoming season is simply laughable. Surely strikers are in your team to score goals and he has failed to do so for the last few seasons, no doubt the reason Posh want rid of him. Our Chairman promised us exciting signings, I for one would say that's the last thing Luke James is. Tom Lock & Dan Leads failed to score last season, are they bad players as well ??

Out of interest does anybody know how many assists Montano provided last season ? he only scored the one league goal I believe (from 25 games).
no need found a website....2 assists 1 goal in the league. so if and that is an IF luke James was to play left midfield that would be his target to beat...not much. Oh he had two assists last season.

Maybe "crazy transfer climate" was a bit much, but Blackburn, Charlton, Fleetwood, Oxford, Northampton, Rochdale, Blackpool and Shrewsbury have all paid out fees, but as a lot are 'undisclosed' it's hard to know exactly how much.

Going by gaschat theory then. All of those sides have a better budget and will finish above us.

I thought Luke James was a striker. His main job in the team was to score goals. As far as I am aware Leads and Locks are defenders primarily. I think they can be excused from not scoring when one of our strikers never scored once.
