It seems to me that Wael is going to make funds available for a good go at promotion with 150k already spent on Sercombe and having had a bid turned down for an unknown posh striker and DC has almost certainly been lining up other targets to improve the squad, possibly Lumley & fingers crossed sweeney on loan again. I don't usually bet on rovers out of superstition but I really fancy us to do something next year if we can keep hold of billy bob so is it worth taking sky bet odds of 18/1 (paying four places each way) before it disappears? I'm seriously giving consideration to lumping a fair bit on so thoughts please as to whether it is just me that is thinking like this? What did he do to earn that nickname?

Not denying he was a fine player in his day. But there's no doubt he's on the downward trajectory of his career and I don't see him as a progressive signing. Don't be fooled by the name and the player he was. We'll just have to wait and see. In the 14/15 season he got 20 goals in League One. He has something to prove after his recent lack of playing time and I reckon he's still got the potential to score 15-20 at this level. Like you say, time will tell. I'd be surprised if got anywhere near 20 goals but we'll see. A two year contract for a 33 year old likely to be on a sizeable salary is a questionable strategy though I think.

Leaving Beckford aside, they also signed Jay O'Shea (11 goals/8 assists in all comps), so my original point remains, they have strengthened and this will be, IMHO, a much tougher division this season. The relegated Champ teams appear to be spending money and clubs like Plymouth, Portsmouth and Doncaster will expect to compete at this level. We have a lot of work to do to even match our finish last season, including strengthening a defence that conceded more or the same amount of goals as three relegated teams last season.

Agree with the latter. I expect it to be a competitive division but not convinced anyone will run away with it in the manner Sheff United did. All to play for...

Sky Bet quoting the Gas odds of making the playoffs now at 4/1 do they know something we dont? What were the odds before? 4/1 seems fairly realistic to me.
