So, how about a bit more faith in DC now? 3 contract extensions: Lines, Sinclair, O Clarke. 5/5 resigned: J Clarke, Gaffney, Harrison, Broom Kilgour. 3/10 new signings so far: Sercombe, Slocombe, Smith, remaining targets in brackets.
GOALKEEPERS Adam Smith Sam Slocombe
DEFENDERS Lockyer Burn Partington Leadbitter Brown J Clarke Kilgour [LB] [LCB big and dominant] [Hartley replacement, I guess, unless DC always planned to be without him]
MIDFIELDERS Lines O Clarke Sinclair Bodin Moore Broom Liam Sercombe [Defensive CM] [Left-sided player who comes inside on his right foot]
ATTACKERS Harrison Gaffney [CF that plays off shoulder] [CF that runs down the line] [CF that drops in the pocket]

Assuming Lewis Hall is being lined up for the CM role then it looks like just the LW and CF (x2) still to be signed.

Still need a quality left sided CB, defensive midfielder, winger and 2 strikers IMHO.

One more striker and we should have enough going forward and I suspect if we do sign a defensive midfielder it will Lewis hall the Australian trialist.

DC talked about signing one left sided CB and having a squad of 24/25 players, on that basis Broadbent looks like he's Sweeney's replacement to me, with Lewis Hall probably being lined up as the defensive CM (or somebody of similar ability), if so, the LW & striker will be interesting as at this rate DC will be doing well to better Monty & Easter.

If we are in for Matt Godden as mentioned on other forum, worried that we might lose Billy Bodin, that would be such a shame as he is top drawer. Need a decent winger hope we get Craig Noone.

Why does getting Godden mean we lose BB? No sign of him leaving, or of the club preparing for him to leave. In at No,10, played in all the pre season games. Doesn't sound like we think he's going anywhere.

Perhaps BB's just keeping Godden's shirt number warm for a week or two!!! (joke)

Well bearing in mind last season's squad had six loanees in it and currently we only have one I can see the remaining gaps filled with temporary additions rather than permanent...at least until the January window.

Hope not, but Godden allegedly would cost 300k, we have spent at a guess 350 already, suppose we have Taylor's money plus Chelsea money, but my fear is that Bodin goes once deal concluded.

I would agree with that. Would be surprised if we ended up with less than three loanees by the end of the window. Obviously we've already got the left back, I wouldn't be surprised to see two young pacey lads come in, one a striker and one a winger. If we sign Lewis Hall then that would be pretty much every position filled as I think 4 strikers is sufficient. Whether there would be enough quality there for our top 6 finish, only time will tell.

Unless we sign a very good prospect then I'll be disappointed if we released Monty just to replace him with any random loan player. What we need is a better LDV/Dawson youngster.
If we're really after Godden I assume there's still money available for another decent striker.

BTW -
Lee Mansell is a Player / Coach and I get the feeling he'd still like to utilise the playing role. Could be decent back-up / JPT.

Feel that's a backward step - LM is history as a first team player. We should have sufficient players (which we don't have yet) to cover every eventuality - we have a top six budget apparently.

LM has a contract as a player / coach. he's hardly out of shape, or a poor player or 45 years old. He can do a job. A job he's paid for. I don't expect he will feature much but he IS in the equation, he will have a squad number, and when we have suspensions, 2 games in a few days, JPT, injuries I suspect he'll come in very handy. And I suspect the budget has been worked according to the situation.

I thought the player role offer part was withdrawn and he's only a coach now, but if he wasn't good enough to appear often last season then why should he be considered this season. To be a top 6 side we really need better back up to OC & Sincs but at the moment we only appear to have a top 10 squad. Assuming the likes of Bury haven't leap frogged us during the summer.

Unless Lee is injured I don't recall him playing in a single friendly to date. With the midfield now awash with Clarke, Lines, Sercombe, Sinclair, Moore and Broom I would be very surprised if he gets any game time next season. There would need to be a few loan outs or transfers out along with injuries and suspensions before he pulls on a Gas shirt again in anger.
