Is it just me that is really excited by the prospect of having a proper development side?
I don't remember the days of when we had a reserve side but it will be good to see our fringe/young players get proper game time with a view to them moving up if they do well.
Maybe also a good idea to use this thread throughout the season? Would also be good if anyone who goes to watch these matches could provide ratings on here for the rest of us throughout the season?

Its definitely a good idea however last season I believe they only played 12 league games over the whole season (less than 2 a month!) along with a few Glos Cup games and some friendlies dotted around. They have there own management and medical team and we seem to be actively signing players for this team so surely they must play more games than that to make it worthwhile? If we need to call on any of them in the first team then we want them match fit I'd have thought.

I can seriously see us developing some real bargains. At that age they have enough time to be able to change/develop things. We've already proven as a club in recent years that we can get the best out of players who seemingly have limited ability. Not going to happen but I would love us to be able to enter them in the Checkatrade trophy. I would actually consider watching the matches then.

The league they played in also seemed to be a sort of local, friendly, uncompetitive league although I may be wrong about this. Maybe the ultimate aim is to play in this league: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016%E2%80%9317_Professional_U23_Development_League#League_2There are a few League One teams in the lowest tier of that so I don't see why that shouldn't be the aim, especially if we plan to be playing Championship football in the near future. I assume an application has to be accepted to play in that league, so maybe they want to set up a decent team and have an impressive season this year to be accepted into it for the 18-19 season.

Well .... I went to watch them play away at Southend and would certainly not describe as local!

Judging my yeaterday, Meyanese is going to have a good career.
Solid, quick for a big lad, techincally good. Captained the team vs Yate and I look forward to watching his progress.

He was very good for Weston last season. I only saw him a few times but he made an impression on the regulars. After he joined they only conceded 27 goals in 21 games and kept 7 clean sheets, compared to 45 goals conceded in 27 games and 3 clean sheets previous to his arrival. I said it before, but he'll be pushing for a first team spot by the end of the season.

Shame on someone for not trawling through the history of Gaschat to check a thread hadn't been posted several weeks or months before!
