So a question asked elsewhere is "Why didn't the players want it", well today i saw something that MUST have contributed.
From the very start the Team were getting abuse, sadly the most vocal parts of the crown were those dishing out the abuse, it absolutely dwarfed any proper 'Support'. Calling Dave Martin 'Dartford' isnt a term of endearment, its abuse, people think they are being funny, but the reality is they are NOT HELPING.
Yes we lost in part because of the most ridiculous penalty decision I've seen in years, but lets not kid ourselves that we the Fans arent part of the problem.
DC will go on about how great the fans are, hes not as Stupid as Buckle & knows he needs to keep the Fans on side, but was there a degree of Truth in what PB thought?
What has been constent throughout our awful decline, not the players, not the manager, but yes the Fans.
If we dont get everybody behind the Team we are screwed, & I really cant face going to Lincoln to listen to that sort of crap again.
Rant over

It's not the same crowd and atmosphere that I was brought up on anymore.
I agree, some 'fans' want to have a hard look at their own match day performance.

Its not good if the fans are doing that but all i can say is we had the most amazing support at Pompey last year, one of the best ive experienced. We still lost as football is about 11 men v 11 men and as much as we like to feel we contribute its the players that count.

Rant overYep all the fans fault that we've been sh** for years, those 560 that went today are a disgrace, spending very hard earned money and spending a whole day travelling, scum one and all. (Bit of sarcasm obviously), sorry mate can't be having what you've said at all.

Surely it would impact home performances more than away? Our home record both last year and this year was/is decent.
Abuse certainly doesn't help though, and there are some elements of 'supporting the team' which I don't really remember doing or hearing in years gone by.

A terrible under performing club, blaming their supporters, Jesus Christ

Fair play to you and the others that travelled to watch, but surely it is understandable that fans who loyally support their team are frustrated with performances. There were 500 gasheads there which is as many as Braintree get on a home game. One thing that has been consistent over the seasons is our support. Rovers players are professional footballers unlike Braintree who can only dream of the support we get.

The abuse started from the kick off, before we had a chance to be crap!
Yes I know its 11 v 11, & the completekly giving up after the 2nd goal was unforgiveable, but if any of you think the booing is helping, you are massively mistaken, I was there, it stopped others getting behind the team, very sad
I said it wouldnt be a popular post, 5 minutes in someone tried to get one bloke to shut up "I paid to get in I'll shout what I like" was the response, no one pushed back after that.

Oh, and to be clear, Im NOT saying its all Fans or even the majority, but sadly the most vocal & influential are contributing to the problem when we need them to be helping.

I didnt say that did i. I said when we have had amazing support we have still lost and we have also won games with small or hostile support. I dont agree with your post but agree that its not right to abuse your own team.

I completely agree with the OP and have experienced the same in a few games this season before a ball was even kicked.

What came first the chicken or the egg? I too was brought up on cracking supportive atmospheres backing the team regardless and loved every minute, but...... We had something to support then!

Our fans don't help is to lose any more than helping us to win. The excuse is pathetic. The poor little things need to man up or ship out.
Hey, boycott the game, see if we play amazing?!

So why are we there then? Why do we bother? Why are fans known as the 12th man? Why are some home grounds like a fortress? Why is home advantage an advantage? It's not an excuse for losing a game as such, but if you think your own fans abusing their own team on a seemingly regular basis is conducive to improving the performance of players clearly low on confidence then maybe boycotting a game is the best option for you.

Whilst i agree DC said he knew this would happen and questioned the mental capacity of last years squad. He promised he would interview players and sign mentally strong players. Its rare away crowds are so hostile :-(

Look, I get that to an extent they have brought it on themselves but imo the atmosphere at the mem last year was toxic at times. It's hardly been that great this year either has it? If we are to ever get a run together we have to be considering our home games as bankers and frankly I can't see how any player would be looking forward running out at the Mem.
It's a minority that do it, but sadly they are the ones in full voice.
