Recently, I've seen a few complaints about the lack of communication coming from the club. As passionate supporters were all desperate to hear news on transfers and the stadium. I think some are quick to criticise and naturally the club is not obliged to report on all, but that itch for information comes from a good place.
During the close season (before pre-season) I thought the offerings we got from the club were more than adequate. The interview with Steve Hammar was unexpected. And I was happy to read the tweets of players and manager signing new contracts.
Now that pre-season has begun I had hoped for more. It's a tricky moan and don't wish to be complacent so it'll take a while to explain, but here goes;
1) I do not expect stadium news. We are in negotiations, there will be privacy agreements. I want a new stadium, but I fully understand we must hold our paitence a little longer.
2) I do not blame the club. The club's output has steadily improved year on year and I fully understand why our press officier (who does a fantastic job) asks questions that are largely agreeable to DC. It is not in the clubs interest to put itself in awkward positions.
3) I do blame local journalism and the BEP in particular. This is the group that should be asking questions of interest to club affiliates. So far, we've had:
- DC change from wishing to sign 10 players to 8.
- Apparent missing out on two from Peterborough
- Rickie lambert becoming a free-agent.
- Reported interest in Sonny Bradley.
The BEP has printed all these stories but has not followed up with the club on any. It's run 3 stories on lambert.
Last year, we had the Taylor saga and more often than not, there was nothing to report on. The story was nothing's changed- we're looking for replacements, the contract remains on the table until we sign a replacement. But James McNulty (then BEP) would at least provide us with a tweet: 'Asked DC, nothing new on Taylor.' Or something similar.
I'm very impressed that the club is managing to keep its transfers largely quiet. Those ITK have almost vanished, and even the Chimp has been quiet lately. Don't get me wrong I support the element of secrecy. But it would be interesting to know what DC thought of the Peterborough chairman disclosing our interests. Imo- it doesn't matter too much. However, it is an envitability that some characters out there might consider themselves second choice, knowing we had wanted Nicholls.
