There's a lot of impatience around at the minute with the lack of signings we are making. I do think that the delay in signing players is a money issue, not because we don't have any, but because DC hates being ripped off and I have to agree with him. DC has said before that the longer the window goes on, the more players drop their demands to a more realistic level. I would rather we wait for the right player at the right price than make a panic signing and pay over the odds.
A genuine question, if we were chasing a striker now who's realistic market value was £3k per week, would you rather:
A.) We gave into his demands now and paid him £5k per week to sign him up this week
B.) Signed him at the end of August, meaning he missed the start of the season for us but got him for £3k per week
I personally would much rather it be option B, but I am an accountant.

Let's stop watering around, get the cheque book out Wael and smash our transfer record! Which I believe has stood for about 25 years? Incredible really UTG!

I'd go for value over splashing the cash.
We are not in a position off the field to speculate and gamble.

If the striker is that good then he will know it himself so option A may well be the best option. Option B may save a few quid but you could very well lose out altogether to another club who is willing to pay him what he wants. What is the price for promotion?
