The question for us should be more about the ban from Rovers rather than what the police do.
Do we all agree we dont want to see this from our fans or do some think what he did is ok?

The bloke is an idiot, causing an affray and bringing the club into disrepute. ban him from all further games for life and those who know give his ID to the police and let any action take its due course.
as a club we don't need fans like this

I think what he did should be an example to all football supporters who care and have passion for the team they love.

I though a Mansfield lad punched the horse? Liked the jokey bit though!
Just don't tell the Teds. It's their favourite comment after every single Rovers story on the BEP website. They will have to find some other crap to carry on stalking us. I just popped over to otib for the first time in a while. They only have 6 dedicated threads to us at the moment. Not bad really. We need to get sorted and climb out of this mess because they are missing us. They are having a good season so far aswell, yet still they miss us and write about us everyday. How sweet.

He didn't actually make any contact with the player. It shouldn't be taken any further.

I am presuming that is some kind of sick joke. If you have kids, you want them to grow up like that?

If you shoot at someone and miss, would you say let him go, he missed?
Jesus Christ

I'm not protecting the bloke at all but it was only handbags, hardly a full on punch up that people are making out it was.

I would think a ban for the rest of the season would be more than enough if found guilty unless there was sufficient reason to think this person would do the same thing again.

I am presuming that is some kind of sick joke. If you have kids, you want them to grow up like that? Only having concern for our/your club is fine. We do often see cases where common law or following of precedents makes sense though. Why have a punishment for this when others have got off lightly for far worse. Physically he has done nothing. Did the player suffer injury, was he able to continue the match?
I do have kids. It was not sick. My kids will grow up the way I mould them. Refer to your previous statement regarding things that are 'ours' please, since my kids are mine. It was a joke mate.

IF I was this guy I would go public, ring the Evening Post and give his side of the story. I don't think a punch connected from looking at that, and I'm not sure it was intended either. It just looks like a lot of gesticulating. There are two problems here. In this day and age it is ridiculous that a. the fans are so close to the goal and b. there are no stewards in front of the fans. It just shows this league isn't ready for clubs the size of Bristol Rovers. I should think this bloke is now feeling highly embarrassed about his actions. He should offer apologies to the Braintree players, their club, the player in question and Bristol Rovers, explain he got wrapped up in the passion of the situation and promise never to do something similar again. Better still, he should ensure he stands somewhere where he cannot get involved in similar incidents again. If he doesn't do that the situation will be taken out of his hands, he WILL get identified soon enough and banned without getting to put his side of the story. I suspect there is a slight over-reaction here. Jeez, Alan Pardew headbutted another player through something much less. Didn't see him get a life ban.

Very good post and good advice for the individual.

Why reward him for such bad behavior? Surely a worse punishment would be to force him to attend all Rovers away matches for the next 5 years but bar him from the Mem.

We are having a witch hunt here when the local constabulary where the alleged incident took place have said no offence was committed. This almost leads me to believe A&S finest have a grudge against the Gas, do we not give them free tickets or something?
Nick makes some good points in his post, yet straight away he is dismissed (this is a bloke who actually works within the press), give him some credit.
Not being flippant, many people know the alleged assailant but are perhaps reticent to offer him up as a sacrificial goat when worse incidents have escaped punishment at the mahossive family club from the dark side. Just my opinion

The difficulty I see is that while he may be technically innocent of a crime none of the clips look good for us as a club.
As I said before this is something for the club to decide. Some will feel a ban too harsh and some will think its appropriate.
As a fan I would be sad to see someone banned over this, but if I was a club official I would ban him in an instant.
They are damned if they do and damned if they don't.

They are damned if they do and damned if they don't. Hugo - a mate of mine took their daughter (10 years old) to Wycombe - we had a memorable day out on her first away trip. A week later v Mansfield, she witnessed the trouble on the pitch incl the police horses and police hitting one of our fans. As a result, she was too scared to travel to FGR two weeks ago. This kind of behaviour can't be tolerated if that is the effect it has on fans who don't go to football to act like thugs. Straight red for the fan and a long ban. I see that the courts have dealt with a few of the pitch invaders this morning as well!!!

Yeah you are right of course and I should have been clearer.
I was referring to a life ban that's been suggested by some.
