Losing patience with Ellis. Gaffney should have started today. Didn't Ellis score in midweek ? Would have been harsh to drop after scoring. R.G. scored today so I assume he will probably start next game. Though D.C. may opt for Telford and Nicholls upfront in a 442

As 1st choice players at this level - neither ~ very surprised both were offered contracts and Montano was allowed to leave.

Yes, against Cambridge reserves. At this level, he has proven time and time again that he isn't good enough.

Gaffney didn't start and scored against better opposition today instead.

Leave it out with the Montano love, he had no end product and scored one goal, if he was deserving of league one football one of the 24 clubs would of offered him a deal. Re Ellis and Gaffney I'm happy to give them another season but would like to see Lambert or similar as a first choice. Gaffney should be starting ahead of Ellis at the minute, would love to see them prove themselves this season.

Despite the evidence over time strongly leaning in Gaffney's favour. For the record I'd like better han Gaffney but he is at least a good ad dependable squad player. This will be Ellis's last season at the club.

Yes, against Cambridge reserves. At this level, he has proven time and time again that he isn't good enough. Problem for us is both have done that not really sure why DC offered them both contracts but perhaps he feels they are the best he could get for the money? I thought Ellis had done OK today and if, I know it's a big if, he'd taken his chance we could have well gone on to win today and it would be 2 in 2 games for Ellis. Gaffers scored today but was still in a side which lost 2-1 whilst he was on the pitch. it still seems crazy to me to release Monty and not get a replacement in then play Sincs on the wing instead, unless the money saved on Monty's wages are paying Sercombe's wages this season.

Ellis or Gaffney is that even a question Ellis Harrison is a lazy liability who has been given too many chances should be released

I merely pointed out that E.H. was the only striker to have scored in the two games and as such might be favoured by D.C. as he had at least scored. Its great that R.G. scored but the game was over by then.
As I said I would expect R.G. to start next game after scoring today...that's how competition upfront works isn't it ?

Answering the question Gaffney by a country mile over Harrison. Having said that we need better than the both of them.

Gaffeney offers something to the team in he is big man, not a great target man but one none the less.
A decent striker we are missing. I pray for Lambert to signed up for 1 season. we need a leader in the side desperately.

Looking at Byron Moore the decision to let Monty leave is ever more baffling. Difference I suppose is that Byron Moore is still under contract. I thought when Moore came on for Monty at Bolton, he was excellent & could see what DC saw in him, Monty was good in that game too. Monty seemed big and awkward to me wasn't afraid to put his foot in & I would have liked to have seen him play down the middle, I don't think he would have scored many, but we could have scored a few from chances I think he would have created.

Really fed up with the Ellis haters, on here and at the ground. OK, he missed a good chance, but so did Bodin, Nicholls, Sercombe, Lines. Noone in blue and white had a good game today, yet even at the end of the game, there were plenty of people willing to boo Ellis, even though he hadn't played for the last half hour.
He didn't win so much in the air today - why? because we persisted in pumping balls straight up the middle where Ellis was challenging a centre half a good 2-3" taller than Sweeney. If we need to play the long ball forward, we'll have much more success letting Ellis, or Rory drift wide and challenge the full back in the air - and it is much less likely that the ball is going to come back to us with interest.
But I don't buy the "lazy" tag. We didn't press well as a team today, but Ellis at least did his best to challenge the keeper on several occasions. I would agree that Ellis can sometimes have greater impact as a 60 minute sub and both need to establish a better rapport with Nicholls.
In answer to the original question, I'm glad we've kept both Harrison and Gaffney. Both will have a part to play.

In fairness he didn't just miss a chance, he missed THE chance. It was essentially an open goal from 5 yards out, and instead of just cooly sidefooting it into the net he tried to put a hole in it and ended up brainlessly smashing it over. But I do agree about the crowd getting on his back more so than others. The booing of him today and cheering when he was subbed wasn't called for and isn't helpful in any way, but he is a very frustrating player and IMO Ellis shouldn't be a starting striker for a L1 club. Is that his fault? No. But it is where the frustration comes from for the fans, especially when you see P'boro with Marriot and Morais tearing us apart at the other end. Or at least play Gaffney over him. I can't think of a single thing Ellis does better or more effectively than Gaffney.

Montano has gone to a L2 club so DC's judgement correct, however Moore will end up in L2 soon we need somebody better or put Telford in and give him a go.
