I really would wonder if we are at present trying to sign any players or just waiting until the last few days of August. It seems strange that transfer dealings seem always to be rushed on the last few days of a transfer window especially when it is clear to see we are still at least three players short and by waiting are throwing points away.

We have to give everyone a chance Steve, don't want to have it too easy!

Where are we short? If we had picked up 4 points would this thread exist?
We played some lovely stuff against Charlton and Cambridge. The points will come.

Correct me if I am wrong... But didn't we make our first signing of the summer some 3 months ago in May? Hardly leaving our business to the last few days of the window is it..

I have been thinking the same, after the 4-1 horror show i thought we may have brought in a couple of players this week.

Don't lots of clubs leave some dealings late.
Some clubs won't let players go until they have replacements, or are testing clubs to see how 'desperate' they are and getting more for their player etc, etc
as it is we have signed 2 senior keepers, spent money on a centre-forward and centre-midfielder and brought Sweeney back added another forward on loan for the season and got another centre-half

To be fair we were nowhere near picking up 4 points were we? Hardly looked like getting one from what my family have told me.
We are short a winger and another striker at least imo

Most clubs will do business at the very last minute of the Transfer Window.

Have heard that Rochdale are close to agreeing a deal for Lambert. That would be a real shame if we miss out on him to a fellow league 1 team.

That really is strengthening the squad!!

Makes you wonder how many they would have beaten us by with 11 men though doesn't it? Could have been 2 tonkings and even more of a meltdown if it weren't for that early red card.

I'm just hoping its all in hand Steve ... have to say i have lost confidence in DCs and Hamers Recruitment ability, scouting of a player and getting them in the building.
I am naively waiting for that big spend on a hungry striker but in my head can sense its simply not coming. There is some real quality out there, people on here have shown that but i fear its over looked as DC knows best!! Before people start banging on about Broadbent we only got him down to a lucky turn of fate not a meticulous scouting network looking for potential talent.
I just wish we had been told honestly in June that there is no real money, we will get what we can and this season will be a battle to better last. Deep down I probably knew it even though I hoped we had turned the corner as a club, sadly the corner was simply a roundabout!!

I think DC has had his legs chopped from under him - the club are not spending money. I'm not sure what attraction this club holds anymore to get players - one big selling point for DC WAS a progressive club with a new Stadium on the horizon and a new CAT 2 standard Training Facility In the pipeline.
Welcome to Chernobyl - wow.

Broadbent Nichols Searcombe Sweeney Smith Slocombe All of the above have been brought in this summer and all of the above are first team quality. When you consider we have also brought in one or two loans to pad out the squad it is very clear that our recruitment has been more than acceptable this summer. What has happened is we have come up against two of the better teams in this division and had off days. It really is as simple as that for me. We know we have an excellent manager and we know we have a squad more than capable of holding their own in this league. We need to add 1 or 2 more before the window closes and we will be well set up to get things back on track. There is absolutely no reason to panic at this point.

While that is possible it is also sometimes the case that teams that lose a player early on have to by necessity sit deep and just defend. If they had not had a player sent off they would probably have come at us more, leaving more space which we may have exploited. I know it's all its and buts, I just don't think we can assume that we would have got tonked if they hadn't had a player sent off.
