OK if DC still wants a defensive midfielder does this mean he does not see Ollie Clarke being up to the job? Or is Ollie still carrying an injury?
Seems from BP interview seems that a centre-forward is no longer on the shopping list so assume he's happy with Ellis, Gaffers and Nicholson?

What happened to the talk of signing 3 strikers - "one who plays off the shoulder, one who runs the line and one who plays in the pocket." ??

Ideally you would like to start and finish the season strongly and have the inevitable wobble somewhere in the middle. But like you say this is football!!
I just feel DC doesn't help himself with his slow summer activity, he may have his own reasons but that's just my thoughts from afar.
We've had terrible starts the last few years, went up twice. That's just the way we do it.
Would be nice to get another Championship season though wouldn't it and give everyone else in the league a good ?

Makes you wonder how many they would have beaten us by with 11 men though doesn't it? Could have been 2 tonkings and even more of a meltdown if it weren't for that early red card.
While that is possible it is also sometimes the case that teams that lose a player early on have to by necessity sit deep and just defend. If they had not had a player sent off they would probably have come at us more, leaving more space which we may have exploited. I know it's all its and buts, I just don't think we can assume that we would have got tonked if they hadn't had a player sent off. Good post

I'm just hoping its all in hand Steve ... have to say i have lost confidence in DCs and Hamers Recruitment ability, scouting of a player and getting them in the building. I am naively waiting for that big spend on a hungry striker but in my head can sense its simply not coming. There is some real quality out there, people on here have shown that but i fear its over looked as DC knows best!! Before people start banging on about Broadbent we only got him down to a lucky turn of fate not a meticulous scouting network looking for potential talent. I just wish we had been told honestly in June that there is no real money, we will get what we can and this season will be a battle to better last. Deep down I probably knew it even though I hoped we had turned the corner as a club, sadly the corner was simply a roundabout!! What a silly, panic inducing post. Please do calm down dear. Broadbent Nichols Searcombe Sweeney Smith Slocombe All of the above have been brought in this summer and all of the above are first team quality. When you consider we have also brought in one or two loans to pad out the squad it is very clear that our recruitment has been more than acceptable this summer. What has happened is we have come up against two of the better teams in this division and had off days. It really is as simple as that for me. We know we have an excellent manager and we know we have a squad more than capable of holding their own in this league. We need to add 1 or 2 more before the window closes and we will be well set up to get things back on track. There is absolutely no reason to panic at this point. exactly right

Transfer twitter lies site is saying we are about to sign David wheeler, can't believe it to be honest. DC has specifically stated that we are after a "left footed winger". I believe Wheeler is right footed, so surely that would rule him out? I thought we had a "left footed winger" playing on the right wing. I thought initially he was looking for a right footed player to play on the left wing. Not easy for me but I'm totally confused now!!!

I'm sure as the perfectionist DC seems to be he will have been wondering why we start seasons poorly himself.
You cannot argue against a good start breeding confidence and put you in a much better position moving forward to achieve our goal. Also, other potential signings (loan or permanent) suddenly become attracted to a club flying high even after a few games.
DC has said today we are looking to overachieve this season, despite us being told we have a top 6 budget? These mixed messages don't help matters.
Did he not say before the season started that the team can't keep overachieving. Perhaps he's resigned now like many of us to the fact that we are at our maximum level with what we have and it's pointless to even contemplate a sustainable life in the Championship for many years to come. As long as he has a squad capable of maintaining a position in this league without spending much money it will be deemed a success. Like most of us, less than three months ago he had visions of leading his team out in a couple of years time into a brand new state of the art stadium, with a strong back up infrastructure of staff and training facilities - he will be absolutely gutted I'm sure.
I think DC is too ambitious to think like that especially after signing a lengthy contract.
If he signed a new contract with the UWE in mind then that news couldn't have been timed worse for him.
Nichols and Bodin will soon start playing as CB pairing and Ellis in goal to try and get the sack! (actually Ellis can still stay up front)

Well after hearing DCs words it makes me feelo no better whatsoever and thank god he is better at bringing on ,motivating players to get results than he is at making signings. I have neither faith in the owners or Darrell to deliver quality signings.

Don't get me wrong I think DC will do well with what we have but it is so frustrating to see other clubs show more ambition. And I wouldn't be surprised if we have a similar season to last year.

Ah yes, Thomas Telford, should bridge the gap .... yeah Peter Dinklage, that's who I meant Does he score goals and know things. I am personally looking forward to see him play. Stoke must have see a good player there to pick up from Blackpool just needs to be given a chance. I would give him a run out ahead of Harrison at the moment. Think we may be keeping our cards close to our chest regarding signing. See DC has been at the ground today for a sponsorship deal. think there may be other things going on. Maybe we will see tomorrow.

With the signings other clubs are making and the quality of clubs in the league this year we will do well to equal last season finish IMHO.

We are certainly no better than mid table so far after the pre season and 2 league games. I do think we will being in the players we need
