Game No 4
Opponents Bury Away
Team Performance Mark out of 10
Slocombe Looked competent and confident on his debut, Initially prefer him to Smith 7
Partington Jury still out on him as a fullback. Out of posiution too many times but good cross 6.5
Lockyer A goal at last ,gave the ball away a lot in first half but assured second half 7
Sweeney Is best when he plays within his limits, solid until the last five minutes 7.5
Brown Defended well and provided good width but crossing let him down 7
O. Clarke Back to his best of last season and it made a difference to the team 7.5
Lines Always available for the ball and used it well. Like to see him shoot more. 7
Sercombe A complete midfielders performance, worked hard throughout with lots of prompoting 8.5 MOM
Bodin Two goals and could have been more, could he yet make a centre forward? Superb header. 8
Harrison Ran his socks off and so deserved a goal for his efforts. Powerful and skilful running 8
Nichols A great intelligent footballer who works hard for the team and could have scored a couple8
Subs:
Gaffney Came on and led the line with gusto and unlucky not to score.Hard choice to make 8
Sinclair Did well but shame to break up the midfield trio 6
Telford Showed some nice touches and movement, would like to see more 6
Crowd Made the noise of a lot more than just over 500 and the team performance merited it 9
Ref What a change- a sensible referee who didn't rush for his book. Many would say lenient-I would say class 8
Bury 5 Looked like a team in transistion but perhaps that was down to us not allowing them to play. The scoreline flattered them.
Team performance summed up Best performance of the season that but for a slack five minutes would have got the minimum scoreline deserved as could have been 5 or 6
Defence summed up Not sure that we have the right back position sorted as we gave the opposition too much space out there which come the death they exploited but overall a competant display.
Midfield summed up Excellent from start until the last five minuted. Some good to watch football played and they worked well as a unit
Attack summed Up I thought they all played well and kept Bury busy throughout. Lots of shots and unlucky not to score three or four more.
Man of Match Liamj Sercombe An all round good performance
Crowd Considering the numbers, the only compliment I can pay is that it sounded like a thousand more and enjoyed what was served up by the team.
Final Comment More of this type of performance and not forgetting 2 or 3 additions and it could be a good season. Next week will be a big test with Fulham and Fleetwood

Careful Steve. If you don't express sainthood with Browner and Locks you might get some abuse.
Much as I saw it, except I don't see what Lines brings to the party any more. Sercombe is such quality Lines is just excess baggage in my opinion. I'd put Broadbent in alongside Sweeney, and leave Lines out. That gives us an extra threat in the air from corners and free kicks, whilst Broadbent is also pacier than Sweeney. It could be a good year to grow him into the position so we no longer need Sweeney.

Partington - "jury still out" ! of course it is ! the lad has had injury problems ever since he arrived. Give him a chance - he needs games under his belt - maybe this will happen now.
He is a very calm player and is good on the ball - he's not going to be a Leadbitter but perhaps might bring us a bit more security at the back.
Again we can see that the goals are coming - 4 in 3 but DC's biggest challenge has to be getting the defence better-drilled and tougher to break down. I know he's happy if we score one more than them but I'm not sure this approach every game is going to get us into the promised land.
Would have more belief in our chances this season if we can get a few clean sheets in the next 5/6 games, starting with Fleetwood.

Who would you play out of the two on the right side of the CBs then? At the moment, right back looks our weakest position at the back so having no natural right footed CB to help cover isn't going to help the situation imo. I thought Lines did well yesterday sitting deep and dictating the pace of the game. When he went off we didn't seem to control possession as well. Agreed Sercombe looks a top player!

How many times have you actually watched broadbent play in a competitive match? Does in training count? If not how does anyone get a debut? Watched him in trial games and at Charlton. How about you? In terms of my earlier post, are you saying it would be less of an aerial threat to put Broadbent in, instead of Lines? It would also bolster our defence in my opinion. Are you saying Broadbent is not as pacey as Sweeney? Ask the players who is the only player to give Sincs a run for his money.

Re - comments on Lines - Bury fans after the game stated that Sercombe and Lines were class and dictated the game!!! They thought we deserved more goals. I tend to agree with their after match comments.

BY "pacey" im guessing you dont mean pacey but are referring to stamina/fitness? Yesterday the team played very well with a 4-3-3 line up so im not quite sure how broadbent can replace lines as hes a centre-back? I do agree that broadbent was unlucky after a strong game at charlton but the manager decided to bring sweeney back and who can blame him after his performances last season. Hes only ever played 1 league game in his life so its difficult to judge him,he now has to wait for his next chance to impress like all the players not actually in the 1st eleven.
