Just saw this in an article on the BBC Sports app discussing the Wales game tonight.
"But maybe this might spell the end for James Collins, certainly he'll be disappointed to be released from the squad because Ethan Ampadu and Tom Lockyer are very inexperienced.
"Lockyer is playing at Bristol Rovers - not the highest of levels - and Ampadu even though he's moved to Chelsea, he's only playing under-23 football, so it's a big call."
....but how many more games does Tom need to play to be considered "experienced",......and surely we're massive! 😉

I guess Coleman decided that if he trusts someone to sit on the bench he trusts them to get on the pitch. And having an up-and-coming 22-year-old is better for the squad long term than an on-the-way-out 34 year old. And bringing a youngster to Moldova is probably a great experience for him.

Iwan Roberts, I think. But who cares? The only opinion that is really important is Chris Coleman and he seems happy enough. UTG!

To be fair they are right...he's played 132 of his games at league 2 level or lower, fair play to him for getting in the squad and it's fantastic for him. He does however have 0 experience of playing against the type of player he could potentially come up against for Wales

Sorry where is the disrespect? Last time I checked league 1 wasn't the highest level. Far from it.

Sorry where is the disrespect? Last time I checked league 1 wasn't the highest level. Far from it. It is disrespectful because he clearly doesn't know anything about Tom, like his 200+ senior appearances by the age of 22, and rather than congratulating him for his exceptional achievement of making a national squad even though he plays in the third tier, he makes a derogatory comment about the level he plays at. It's just lazy punditry and lacking in civility, which in my book is disrespectful.

All due respect to Lockyer but he gets away with his wayward passing with a few murmurs on here..
Can't see him getting away with stray passes from the back on the international stage, either from fans or Gareth Bale

just typical crap from people who can't be bothered to do their research.
to mention a 16 yr old with 8 appearances in the same breath as a 22 yr old captain with 200 appearances already is ludicrous.

I would say Lockyer is picked by Coleman because of his experience with us and at u21s for Wales but at the same te he is inexperienced at that sort of level but e eryone has to start somewhere

Lets hope there hasn't been any willy-waving about how much they are earning as Tom could go the same way Roberts and Cureton did

Young Tom has clearly been picked as part of a 23 man squad. People forget that Wales are hardly blessed with a glut of players elegible to play for their country, young Woodburn for example is only there because his grandfather was Welsh from Swansea and the lad chose to play for Wales from a very early age. England tried to poach him after he had played for all the young age groups, but fair play to the lad for his loyalty to the people who saw a player in him from a very young age. I wish Tom every success from now on wherever he plays his football, he could do a lot worse than playing for a manager who quite clearly knows his football and has up to now done everything asked of him by Wales.

A reminder Iwan Roberts played 15 times for Wales as a striker scoring only once. You could say he was toothless.
