As an Englishman with Welsh blood (English father, Welsh mother, born and bred in England, but having lived most my adult life in Wales - I've been described as a mongrel by one Welshman i met!), i did have a little laugh, and that's fair enough, there is rivalry, even if it's mainly been about the rugby in the past - and some of them would of had a massive laugh if we'd failed to qualify (that's now delayed for 9 months!).
Re the club v country line, don't think it's quite the right moment to raise this argument, given the result at Northampton without our internationals!
However, i do agree with the argument that games should be rescheduled, or at least there should be the options.
It would then only be positives to see the boys called up (there is the risk of injury, but there's that risk in training too, and it will definitely help a players development).
I look forward to us having three internationals of our own so we can have the best of both worlds. What's the likelihood? I'd rank as follows, but others may have more idea:
LOCKYER Bodin Ghassan Hassan (when he's old enough) Harrison Gaffney
Anyone else?

How you feeling Big Jock? i'm fine Marshy my ol friend. lets be honest if wees wanted to get through we wouldnae have appointed the ginger cunnt. Go on, just think for a minute, your team is chosen and trained by Gordon StrapOn and Mark McGoo. Even i find it hilarious

Thanks for alienating Rovers' Welsh support base. There's quite a lot of us you know. I would say this about any international team including England I have always believed that it should be club before country what I am trying to say is that they know what it is like to be without players being available and that all teams should be included in the international breaks All teams are included as long as you have 3 of your players called up for international duty. Given that we won 6-0 without Locks would we have really wanted that game called off with hindsight?

Rovers international XI (bound to miss some obvious ones, because I'm so young (!), so go gentle!)
...............Martyn Curle Scales Mabbutt Pipe Ball Astafjevs Mauge Walters ........Bradford Lambert
Forster Lockyer Browning Roberts Hayles Gareth Taylor
(I know pipes out of position, but I like the mix of goals and fight)
You may want to edit for only players who were internationals whilst at the gas.

I'm sure many if not most of you guys would find it amusing if England didn't qualify surely!! Certainly all my welsh mates would love it Not at all. With a genetic and geographic foot in both camps, I want both to do well and can't stand the xenophobia. Fair enough. No xenophobia on my part though I can assure you.

Have lived in West Wales for just over three years now in an area where there are lots of welsh speakers and the local MP is from Plaid Cymru. Have not experienced any ill feeling towards us from the locals, in fact have to admit they are a very friendly bunch. I was a little disappointed that they went out of the world cup qualifying last night and I for one would have loved to see them qualify. At least I still have the consolation of seeing a Gas flag flying high in my welsh/English speaking neighbours garden in our village. We have always enjoyed good banter between us and a couple of months ago I awoke one morning to see the Gas flag flying, he had phoned the club shop up and ordered one! I intend to bring him to a game before the end of this season to enjoy a game at our state of the art stadium!

I like this. How about an XI of players capped whilst playing for the Gas - I'm presuming Locks will get a cap as there aren't enough defenders otherwise! I think this is a bloody good team (if a little weaker at the back). Can't quite fill the bench though. Ronnie Briggs (Northern Ireland) Neil Slatter (Wales) Matt O'Mahoney (Ireland) Ian McLean (Canada) Tom Lockyer? (Wales) Wayne Jones (Wales) Vitalis Astafjevs (Latvia) Ronnie Mauge (Trinidad and Tobago) Dai Ward (Wales) Geoff Bradford (England) Jason Roberts (Grenada) Subs: Agogo (Ghana), Gosling (Gibraltar), Haverty (Rep of Ire), Pierre (Trinidad and Tobago), Browning (Wales)

My mrs is Welsh and therefore our daughter half English half Welsh so I don't hate them like many English people do but what I will say is that they play with far more determination and spirit than the England side do and I thoroughly enjoyed watching them in the Euros and was hoping they would qualify for the World Cup so I could watch at least one of my two teams play with the pride and passion that any supporter would expect his team to play with in a major tournament. Oh well. Just England it is then .

I'm pretty sure the welsh will have a laugh at our expense when we crash out at the group stage. Let's be honest England are a laughing stock , bunch of average to poor footballers who aren't capable of competing with the better teams. The welsh , Scots , and Irish teams give their all for the national shirt and our lot don't seem to give a toss. I don't think we've had a team to be proud of since Euro 96 , France 98 was ok but it's been downhill since then. I wouldnt watch an England game if the tickets were free and I was chauffeur driven to Wembley.

I've won free England tickets in 5 a - side football tournaments a few times and have never bothered to go. They'd have to pay me to watch that crap. Thing is those players play good fast direct football for their clubs and then they put the national shirt on and everything slows down so much. The last time we played the English way was 1996 and we were fantastic.

I hate to think what's going to happen to our team of kids, squad players and bench warmers when they face the foreign stars from their own domestic sides in Russia.
The Scots are criticised for how far they've fallen, but we have ten times their population and all the football money, but our home-grown talent has withered away to almost nothing in terms of top internationals.

I don't know why everyone seems to think England have this god given right to get into the quarters/semis etc like we're some football super power. I don't even think it's that we don't care, if we didn't cre then why bother turning up for qualifing and winning those matches? We have a lot of expectation built up by the media but the reality is We're not that great. We are however better than Scotland and Wales. Hence why we will be at Russia and they'll be stuck at home. It's about time we accepted the national team for what they are and got behind them.

But in seriousness, I thought the national mood and the media had stopped expecting England to progress easily in tournaments. In fact, most people's expectation seems to be one of failure at the group stage as per the last few tournaments. If only England could approach games like underdogs who will give it a right good go, I think there would be a real chance of success. Instead, England always seem full of angst in tournaments, full of the fear of failure.

I don't know why everyone seems to think England have this god given right to get into the quarters/semis etc like we're some football super power. Coz we should be a football superpower. More tradition than any other nation. More money than any other nation. A decent-size population.

Nearly as classy as the Welsh players laughing and celebrating like they had won the world cup on camera at us when we lost to Iceland...

I don't think I've heard anyone ever say that we have a god given right to get to quarter / semi final and we are certainly not a super power as we are a load of crap. I'm also quite certain that the majority of our national team wouldn't turn out for the England team given the chance as it seems like they are being put out by wearing out national kit , the least two performances were abysmal, You say we have expectations? The media haven't talked up englands chances in a major tournamnent for over a decade as even they know the England team are utter garbage. We are heading to Russia due to the fact that we played against Mickey Mouse teams , like I said earlier if / when we come up against anyone with a bit of quality we'll be on our way home like usual and we'll hear the same old excuses. You also say it's time to accept the national team and get behind them ? they are one of the best supported national teams in international football ! They don't deserve the support they get as it is , not many nations would turn up and watch the bollox that our lot dish out.

I was watered off with that as well as were many over this side of the bridge. See my edit, which tries to address your point a bit more seriously.
