Coz we should be a football superpower. More tradition than any other nation. More money than any other nation. A decent-size population. Tradition counts for f**k all. Population? China and India should do well then... Tradition is massive. That's why the same teams win the WC again and again, and the same teams do well consistently. And those teams all come from nations with a relatively long history of love of the game, and a well-established league system. The population comment was just because smaller countries (Holland, Scotland, Portugal, Belgium, etc) with decent traditions are generally a bit up and down with their consistency, I imagine coz they tend to get decent generations, and then not so decent ones. Obviously I wasn't suggesting that all it takes is a large population. But then, you knew that.

Nasty and spiteful post, would have liked to have seen Wales and even Scotland make the World Cup Finals and I'm sure Locks, Ellis and BB would be proud to represent their country. Training with an international squad is great experience for Locks as well. the home nations never wanna see England do well. Sod em, never forget the Welsh team celebrating us getting knocked out by Iceland. Imagine if the England squad did that, it would be all over the media "arrogant English disrespectful to home nations" or "England football team makes a mockery of British unity". The day I wanna see Wales do well will be the day they cheer for us but that will never happen.

I watched the game and I wanted Wales to Win. Players like Bale and Ramsey, who would easily make the England team deserve to be a World Cup.
That said it was a terrible game of football and Wales deserved nothing from the game. The Irish were strong and well organised.
My outlaws live in Scotland and although they are English born their heritage is mostly Welsh with my mrs growing up in Llandudno the whole family consider themselves to be Welsh. That's what makes it just about acceptable in Scotland, the Scots do despise the English when it comes to sport. And if you speak to a pure scotsman, most will say England is the place you drive through to get to Wales!
That said, I always quite like it if the scots are involved in a game. I always hope they do well.

I thought it was funnier that the Jocks went out myself. How you feeling Big Jock? i'm fine Marshy my ol friend. lets be honest if wees wanted to get through we wouldnae have appointed the ginger cunnt. Go on, just think for a minute, your team is chosen and trained by Gordon StrapOn and Mark McGoo. Even i find it hilarious Fair play Big Jock I see your point! It will be the usual humiliation for England, struggling to win a game. I can't see that changing for a long time!

I'm still laughing today. I've enjoyed the Welsh being knocked out of the WC as much as I'll probably enjoy watching England playing there, why?
1) because the welsh became incredibly smug for a one man team, 1-0 team
2) this -
3) this -
4) this -
A shower of sh1te.

f**k Wales and Scotland. We'll be there they won't. I don't know why everyone seems to think England have this god given right to get into the quarters/semis etc like we're some football super power. I don't even think it's that we don't care, if we didn't cre then why bother turning up for qualifing and winning those matches? We have a lot of expectation built up by the media but the reality is We're not that great. We are however better than Scotland and Wales. Hence why we will be at Russia and they'll be stuck at home. It's about time we accepted the national team for what they are and got behind them. I couldn't give a toss about Wales , Scotland or Ireland. I don't think I've heard anyone ever say that we have a god given right to get to quarter / semi final and we are certainly not a super power as we are a load of crap. I'm also quite certain that the majority of our national team wouldn't turn out for the England team given the chance as it seems like they are being put out by wearing out national kit , the least two performances were abysmal, You say we have expectations? The media haven't talked up englands chances in a major tournamnent for over a decade as even they know the England team are utter garbage. We are heading to Russia due to the fact that we played against Mickey Mouse teams , like I said earlier if / when we come up against anyone with a bit of quality we'll be on our way home like usual and we'll hear the same old excuses. You also say it's time to accept the national team and get behind them ? they are one of the best supported national teams in international football ! They don't deserve the support they get as it is , not many nations would turn up and watch the bollox that our lot dish out.The closer it gets, the more rubbish the media come out with. Here is an example from last year www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2016/06/08/why-england-can-win-euro-2016-13-reasons-this-is-their-year/I actually think the media in this country is a big reason we fail. The focus, pressure, expectation, scrutinising every negative and positive and exaggerating it. Every competitionwe have to have a wonder kid who the media will hype up to the max and then knock them as soon as they can. We probably will lose to decent teams because we're not that good. We're also not that bad though. Bad teams don't qualify for world cups. You got the likes of Netherlands who won't be there and then Croatia who have to qualify through playoffs. Most teams are mickey mouse in qualifying. You still have to go out there and do it though. USA won't be there. Lost to Trinidad and Tobago last night. Chile won't be there. We don't support our national team enough. Maybe in terms of numbers at games but when it comes to being positive about them and giving them a chance, we are all too quick to turn our backs. We seem to like criticising ourselves too much and that is because we have this arrogance of believing we should be better than what we are. I agree with what Southgate said last week that this team are being tarnished with the past failures of England sides. We have to remember that the past is the past and accept what we have and give the players we have now the platform to go out there and do us proud.

Woodburn however is going to be some talent and Bale would just about make our team. I don't get this questioning of whether we deserve to be in the world cup or not. We qualified by 8 points. Yes it was a crap group but we have qualified fair and square.

GGMI makes a good point, the english press are usually out to vilify rather than support.
That said, we are nowhere near good enough, we never pick form players, we are happy to play players out of position constantly, we don't have our own footballing philosophy (look at the German team for example of that), we have a manager that didn't really want the job, we have a manager that can't really do the job, and the FA which created this monster are focusing on all the wrong areas to improve it.
It's the presses dream really.

Big Sam for example, he was entrapped by the media and set up to fail. Yes he didn't help himself but the media were 10 times worse.

That said, researchers have found that people with low self-esteem are more likely to feel schadenfreude than are people who have high self-esteem.

Bit like little Walesender, Scotlander or Europeaner etc etc ? Or it could be a little pride and love for your own Country ? Why does having pride in your Country mean you feel the need to wish ill on others? Welsh footballers have contributed hugely to the Gas over the years so why all this hostility to the Welsh? Simply don't understand the logic in saying love and pride in your own country justifies or necessitates wishing ill to Welsh football team. That my view and I won't post again on this issue.

You mentioned the 'little Englander' attitude, I was simply pointing out that other Nations have the self same attitudes. I know a whole raft of different folks have played for the gas and I thank them all, this is not about disliking anyone it's about not dissing your own Country because it's trendy to do so.

Just like we wish ill to our fellow Bristol club. They're the enemy when it comes to sport, they love to see England fail and i love it when they fail. Absolutely nothing against the Welsh people, worked all over south Wales and met many good people but the vast majority, when it came to sport, were of the same mindset as myself.

I can't get excited about England football anymore. I never used to miss a televised game, and even went to the old Wembley to see them a few times.
Now? Not really arsed, we might have got to the finals, but like in other years I fully expect them to be back before the post cards.
