Right see the kid go now, just needed the first, good feet and tidy finish today, wrongly compared to Luke James, if he gets the supply he will turn out to be better than Taylor. Confidence is a massive thing for strikers, really pleased for him. Played through the middle he will do the business.

Thought he looked poor today and really got lucky with the back pass or he'd have probably been replaced w/o scoring yet again. Anyway lets hope that gives him the boost he needs to now go on a scoring streak.

Agree, he's nothing like LJ, for one thing he stays on his feet which helps when you're playing football! LJ seemed to do a lot of huffing and puffing but nothing really came of it. At least Nichols creates opportunities. Hopefully now he's broken his duck he will grow in confidence in front of goal and start banging them in regularly.

I thought that he has been unlucky not the score up until now. I agree with the OP though that he will turn out to be much better than the snake. I think we have got a quality player who will come good. So pleased he scored on Saturday. Watch him go now!

Do you really believe Nichols will go on to score more than a goal every 2 games ??

He will be improving his game under roughly the same coaching staff and joined us 2 levels above where Taylor was when he arrived. After 10 starts he has 1 goal to his name, after Taylor's first 10 starts he had 1 goal to his game and didn't score his second from open play until his 19th game for the Gas. We rush to judgement over players. There are so many factors to take into consideration, especially just after a move. Nichols will do what Nichols does, but there is a lot to like about his game and I expect he will kick on with us as he gets more and more settled.

Neither do I so far. Taylor’s movement was first class and he always looked ready for the through ball Nichols isn’t even looking the right way half the time.

It’s a mistake to compare him to Taylor, he’s not on the same level and works in different ways, doesn’t mean he won’t be good enough in this league of course.. but Taylor he is not.

Are you comparing him with the well established, confident Taylor who scored 20 goals before Christmas in League 1 last season or the Taylor who couldn't hit a barn door in the Conference when he had first joined? Nichols still deserves to be given time and there have been moments of undeniable quality from him which strongly suggest better is to come.

I was fully behind Taylor from day 1 even when not scoring he was excellent for us. The same cannot be said of his replacement.

I agree he needs more time I’m not saying he’s crap just that his movement isn’t as good and his vision isn’t as good. It might come in time though.

He is only just older than Taylor was when he arrived. Comparisons with Taylor are pointless in the end anyway. I believe he can be a very effective player for us. If Ellis and Gaffers continue to show the improved consistency they have shown this season then Nichols doesn't need to score 25 a season. If he contributes 10-15 this season and Gaffers, Ellis and Bodin do the same, we'll be doing alright.

My problem with Nichols from what I have seen is he doesn't excel at any one thing. He's technically not bad, He's not bad in the air for a small player, his shooting is ok. He's a bit lightweight, easily knocked off the ball. Doesn't work particularly hard (albeit not lazy), Pace wise he is probably similar to Taylor. What Taylor did excel at though is movement and his football brain. I don't think it was fair to compare Luke James to Taylor as Luke James was a very cheap back up. Nichols however is Taylor's proper replacement with the money we have spent on him and so far he hasn't delivered.
I know he's not our player but I'd put money on Telford ending up the better player out of the 2. Just my opinion and I may end up being wrong.
