You’ve missed at least one name out . . . Together I suspect this lot have a big influence in Bristol generally and UWE in particular, and may be able to explain why UWE trustees “decided” they didn’t want to proceed with the deal DS put on the table . . . Would that be Chris Booy, chairman of Bristol Rugby? More likely ex 82er Chairman John Laycock, unless there's a big player without a sporting background? So what actually are the MV's in Bristol, a bit like Freemasons but with a more public face?

So what actually are the MV's in Bristol, a bit like Freemasons but with a more public face? The MVs are the founding fathers of UWE and still very involved. And not much happens in Bristol without their involvement And they have enough influence to block or stall things they don’t like the look of. Any connection to Bristol Sport is purely coincidental I’m sure. But Laycock and Pontin are very powerful and City connected as well as Booy. Note that no Jordanians are involved!

When Wael woke up to find Captain Gas's head in his bed, he got the message loud and clear that UWE was now off the agenda.

How about - UWE builds a stadium, then rents it to Rovers for matchdays only. We sell the Mem for housing, and the proceeds are held in trust to pay the rent (5% drawdown on £15m is £750k pa). All our offices etc are at the training ground.
Thoughts?
I had a chat with someone who says a proposal has or will be put forward to the club where, forgive my lack of knowledge on matters of property, we would be “turnkey tenants “I don’t even begin to say I understand what that actually means but I was to,d it was win/win for both parties. I must admit though, I think ANY proposition whee UWE is mentioned has Long left port. Apparently it’s EW who is the driving force, if you believe these things.

It really is time that our fans stopped attempting to make comparisons with the 82. Like it or not they are a country mile ahead of us in so many ways that the list will be too long. Forget the gap, it’s a chasm. What we truly need now is the Twerton spirit and to support OUR club. Who knows what is really happening eh ? Therebhas been so much negativity and me being one of the worst bit for different reasons. All that we can do is to keep, turning up and to vocally support our players. January is a month I dread as it will either be a massive meltdown or more conspiracy talk. We often accuse them of obsessing over us but we can do a fair bit of that ourselves

Interesting, strange and I fear nothing to do with us ..... I feel another kick in the teeth coming our way. Nothing to do with us but the Merchant Venturers Members might give you a clue Could you maybe elaborate a little more please ? Thanks in any case

When Wael woke up to find Captain Gas's head in his bed, he got the message loud and clear that UWE was now off the agenda. Woltz was very attached to the horse, his pride and affection for the animal clearly evident. Khartoum was eventually killed and decapitated, then Luca Brasi put his head in Woltz's bed to convince the director to grant Johnny Fontane the lead in the new war movie he was shooting.

This just jumped out at me thanks to damn sky sports reporting on it. Ignoring that lot is easier for me as a bath gashead mind. UTG!

And we forget the £12m debts? At 5% drawdown, the trust funds will be gone in less than 25 years at current rates. What then? Remember Coventry. The debts would be a problem! Regarding the drawdown, you aren't allowing for investment return. A well diversified portfolio at that level should be capable of returns of inflation plus 5%, over the long term

Would it not be more likely that we move to a stadium as tenants, the Mem gets sold to clear all the debts and in effect Wael and co have ended up with a "free" football club.
Not saying that is necessarily a terrible thing, if we have a very long term deal at a sensible rent and as long as we progress enough on the field to get revenue from TV etc and we at least keep most of the match day revenue to survive .....
Possible in a scenario where Wael really does not have the money to invest .....

Not that I really have a scooby, but wasn't the UWE effectively going to be a rented stadium where in effect we paid rent on the land? I'm probably wrong so happy to be corrected as I'd love to know more about why the deal failed one day. To me the whole "UWE missed the deadline" and "UWE rejected an invitation to come to Jordan" are 2 insulting reasons for a monumental anti climax affecting the club's future prospects, and surely must be total b0ll0x? The only logical explanation must be the fact that the club weren't due to get as much commercial windfall as they'd like, which if that is the case, they surely wouldn't want to enter into another renting situation? Again, only speaking as a pretty uninformed but annoyed Gashead.

I thought we had to pay nothing as they had the naming rights for the ground in exchange for a 125yr lease, but i could be wrong as iv'e read so many conflicting stories.

That's a bit strange, all the documents supporting the application shown in the link in my OP have all now been removed from the S Glos planning portal!

Naming rights were involved...I distinctly recall the term 'peppercorn rent' being thrown about. So the message coming out from both parties was very much that leasing the land for 125 years would not be a logistical problem for the club and is part of the reason why I am really sceptical about the deal not being good for the club. To me it is plausible that Higgs and Co's main motivation was to leave a legacy of some sort and to get a modest return on their investment while having a solvent club. The Al Qadi's have no such motivation and in order to build the stadium would be looking for a far greater return that the UWE may not yield. The best deal for the club and the best deal for the Al Qadi's are absolutely not the same thing and I worry that this opportunity for a new stadium has been tossed away by investment bankers looking to make a killing when there could be others out there now who would accept a more modest return. Either way, that confidentiality clause has a lot to answer for. If only we could get the actual truth about the stadium, that would tell us better than anything exactly whether the owners are good for the club or not.

Well you said it yourself, the old board were selling us short in order to leave a legacy. Yes, the AQs may have a different agenda. Possibly one with greater aspirations than modest returns. Maybe one that doesn't concede the lions share of potential club income to a 3rd party. You have absolutely no evidence that the family turned down UWE because they want to make a killing. Even if they sold up tomorrow, sold the ground and left us in the sh** they would not have made a killing.

That's what they said, but it's not really about the rent, though. It's about where the matchday revenue might go, and where the non-matchday revenue might go.
