I thought we had to pay nothing as they had the naming rights for the ground in exchange for a 125yr lease, but i could be wrong as iv'e read so many conflicting stories. That's what they said, but it's not really about the rent, though. It's about where the matchday revenue might go, and where the non-matchday revenue might go. The land, paying for the actual build and rent are all red herrings. It's all about match day revenue.

I genuinely believe UWE walked because somebody whispered in their ear that there may be a better deal. I don’t believe anyone was gonna make a killing. And the whole debate about land values and asset stripping is missing the point. See it as a single project, don’t keep deconstructing it. Colony isn’t happening because UWE isn’t happening. They aren’t and never were discrete projects. Get football revenue (not just match day) going and we can have a nice training ground, but no planned income uplift means no investment. I also believe it was never gonna be ALQ money, they are merely facilitators of the total scheme. And they still are by the way

There was an exhibition of the plans held in the Dribuild suite some years ago. Watola when asked, said the 5 year naming rights were a gimme to the UWE for allowing us to build the stadium, and them missing out on selling it for housing. At the time, the naming rights were supposedly valued at between £5-£8m. After that, Rovers could sell the naming rights to anyone they wished to. There would also be a normal commercially valued lease applied to the land for a total of 120 years. On expiration, there would be a right to renew at whatever was viable then. Of course NH and the rest of us would be dead by then, so I don't suppose anyone was worried about the renewal costs.

What were we negotiating with UWE about, if it wasn't about stuff like that? Lots of stuff like that i assume, but how do we know what they did or didn't want, has it been announced by UWE or Rovers or is it more some bloke told me. Just interested where the UWE wanted part of our gate receipts came from, if true Dwayne should have pulled out straight away and yet they were close to completion we were told.

No, just like you I'm assuming it too. I think matchday revenue is more likely to be concessions and beer, and stuff like that rather than a proportion of the gate receipts. But I'm just guessing there, too. I'm just guessing this way, coz it seems to me that this is exactly the sort of stuff they must have been negotiating and exactly the sort of stuff that the viability of the project would hinge. But even Coventry, who famously got the worst deal in the history of stadium deals (since we sold Eastville) got to keep all their gate receipts, afaik.

Back to my OP why are the UWE still spending time and money meeting all the planning conditions, if the stadium is dead as far as the ALQ's are concerned, assuming S Glos now confirm they've met the conditions will the UWE start work on building it before next month's deadline.

That's a perfectly reasonable assumption, i just can't shake these niggling doubts that the reason it didn't happen is yet, or more likely never, to be known and the future worries me. I thought the days of worry about our future were over when the Family bought us. At least the team has me smiling again. UTG

UTG Do you know what mate i feel exactly the same as you , I honestly thought we’d arrived and after all the hurt we’ve endured as fans over all the years and by the way I’m old enough to recognise the decline from the early 80s it could all be put behind us and challenge somewhat , I actually bought into the evolving comment rather than buy it to the top as in Fulham , Man City etc Over the years but we seem have taken one step forward and 30 years back and our new owners I thought had promise , in fact after the Sainsbury’s debacle when all was lost including wasted legalities I thought probably as most that was it but in stepped the new owners committed theirselves outright that the stadium would be built nonetheless. Obviously we are now left with the broken stadium promise and a club that has no direction and fans even those of the rose tinted brigade left scratching heads as to where we’re heading

Waq told us two weeks ago, he intends to develop the MEM piecemeal sometime in the future. I fail to see what connection BRFC still have with the UWE. We cannot expect the University to not pursue other opportunities with whoever.I just wish Waq & Hani showed a bit of urgency and started to make things happen for BRFC on and off the field. I am hoping DC will-be shopping at "Waitrose" and mot "Poundland" during the January transfer window, cant wait. Big signings, big push for promotion.

Is there an equivalent of Mark Walters playing today?
