The season so far has left most Rovers fans unhappy about one thing or the other and generally wanting or demanding more. However should we step back a moment and actually look at what Bristol Rovers football club actually is and who is similar out there.
If we do this then we can aim to make the ground and facilities the best compared to those whose history we parallel . Then the team can strive to improve our standing and thus competitors to compare against.
Firstly...we have to accept that BRFC have never played in the top flight ,so we should only compare ourselves to clubs who have also never reached that level. Secondly ,we should look firstly at clubs who have similar balances across the divisions as BRFC.
So all said and done the list of most similar clubs are...

So how do Rovers compare with those clubs off the field ?
Would the first achievement moving forward not to be to ensure BRFC have a better stadium and training set up than Chesterfield ,Walsall ,Tranmere ,Rotherham ,Doncaster and Southend ?
To give the team the footing to take the club upwards to find new teams to compare with ?
So a 15,000 all seater stadium with a decent training ground will do that.
It should be noted that only Burton in the championship have not played in the top flight in their history. When you consider most of the crowds teams like Barnsley ,QPR , PNE get for example would fit into a 15,000 stadium .
Trying to compare or match with City is silly they have a different history on the field.
tier 1 =9 tier 2 =49 tier 3=45 tier 4=2.
As someone said...lets forget about Bristol city (for now) and start doing better than our real current competitors.

You have to have a plan don't you...some were crazily complaining the club didn't have a plan b ! Realistic aims...on the pitch the club isn't really doing any worse than chesterfield Walsall Rotherham Doncaster etc is it Off the pitch it is. A blue version of the keepmoat stadium could easily be built at the mem site.

so there was no need to get excited about the take over and new ground and new training ground then,I think fans are watered off cause we thought the club was going places DC included,were no better off on and off the pitch with the new owners Wael needs to find a partner that matches his enthusiasm for the club cause the rest of his family don’t Will be very surprised if we improve the squad much in January but don’t think we will go down |

I do feel like you are just saying we should lower our expectations here. There is no reason why we couldn't have a stadium around 21 k mark and close to fill it.
There are fans getting drenched, freezing, unable to get hot food in a reasonable time or a drink in packed bars and 8-9K keep turning up. If we had a decent ground where none of the above occurred, perhaps cold weather is hard to combat we would see much larger crowds. We took 1100 and something away after huge number of consecutive defeats.
The playing side will sort itself out with a decent ground, filled with fans inspired and wanting to support their team.

The training ground is still moving forward...it hasn't been abandoned ! Nobody who was formerly at Rovers could have found the funds that have been spent on trying to modernise the club over the last year.
Perhaps if many years ago Rovers actually got on with doing things they could achieve rather than the endless pie in the sky plans for things the club couldn't afford things may have ended up better ?
So maybe actually just getting on and building something modest then worrying about it "not being big enough for premier league football" when the club is actually sat in the prem...like at Bournemouth.
The last 35 years has been kept alive by dreams and hope for better things in the future. But its just been dreams the previous custodians have only ever had money raised from selling the ground to offer as money for a new stadium.Nothing else.
Yes the dream was to have something to rival or better ashton gate...but lets face it there was nothing better than rag bag rovers playing at a non league ground knocking city off the top place and taking the championship...in spite of their bigger better stadium....

The clubs I have mentioned all have similar histories to Rovers and that's despite Rovers getting far better crowds over the years than those clubs. Potentially if Rovers were top four prem year on year they would get 50,000 crowds...but that's not happened so no need to prepare for that just yet.
You are so very right about the conditions the current fans have to put up with. They need to be changed...hence the suggestion for doing the achievable now rather than living in hope and not ever getting anything.
A packed keepmoat style stadium at the mem would give all the comforts and a cracking atmosphere. In league one or the championship. Bristol city's highest ever average in league one (or equiv.) is 12,864. Bristol Rovers is 13,026.
15-16000 is more than enough at league one. and adequate at championship.
If you ignore the 4 seasons in the top flight Brighton and hove albion share a very similar history both in divisional sense ,crowd sizes and moving stadiums. However they really have no competition for support in the region.

And how have the new owners found the money? Last time I checked we were even more in debt than before with no new revenue streams on the horizon to offset the increase in spend and with a guarantee from our chief creditor that we will be kept afloat until March 2018. Until we have a viable long term plan from our owners we are building on foundations of sand as much as the previous owners did. |

In general terms, I agree. I think something in the 12-15,000 bracket would suffice especially if we could add something extra later on such as replacing the West Stand in the longer term. Looking at the current average attendances, 14 of the teams have average attendances of c.20,000 or fewer and an average for us of say 13,000 (allowing for fluctuations I would expect something like 20% over average for the most practical requirement meaning c.15,000) would put us in the Millwall, Brentford, QPR category. Capacity much north of 20,000 would not be necessary apart from the odd occasion. I've always liked the design of Plymouth's ground and something like that would be fine for me, albeit with the main stand built first and then move on rather than the way they have done it (and plan to do with the last stand). The actual capacity would probably be a moot point anyway, provided it was reasonable, as it is the non match day revenue generating options that will decide its viability. |

Come on, Paul Buckle telling us to lower our expectations when he couldn’t organise a defence in League 2 or lead a dog on a walk is very different from a poster saying a 15,000 new stadium and training facility and asking the owners to build something instead of endlessly talking about it. Watch this little montage to see how crap our stadium is. The worst, apart from Wimbledon. Even Fleetwood looks better, albeit dinky.
I've virtually given up all hope now for a new ground. The Keepmoat or New York stadiums look like Wembley in comparison. And we won't be building anything like that.

What evidence do you have that the training ground is still going ahead, as there's still no signs of any plans being submitted to S Glos planners. As far as a 15K capacity stadium you talk as though that's something we can build during the summer at minimal cost, however, a decent stadium will still probably cost £30M and there's no signs the ALQ's are prepared to invest that kind of money in the club, it's just all pie in the sky as things stand at the moment. |

Did I miss the statement saying the training ground wasn't going to be built at all ? I suspect that the training ground wont get its initial decision until the club know what they plan to do for a stadium. That doesn't mean that plans have not been made to move forward depending on different scenarios. Evidence ?...I have the same evidence of that as knowing whether the squad will turn up to the next match or just stay at home. Why did they even bother to buy the Almondsbury site if they had no intentions of developing it as a training ground ? and leave the conspiracy theories to the flat earthers please.
A smaller stadium will allow for more space on the site for other things ? They took over at the club expecting to have to finance a stadium for £50-60million...
It will take several years to build in full I expect ....but you can make a start pretty quick once you know what you plan to do. How long did ashton gate stadium take to rebuild ?
Please ask Chesterfield ,Rotherham , chester ,Doncaster , Plymouth , Exeter , Yeovil , Cardiff ,Swansea , Fleetwood , Morecambe , Notts county , Mansfield , Cheltenham , FGR , Southampton , Reading , Swindon , Oxford , Birmingham ,Bournemouth ,Crewe , Shrewsbury , Brighton ,Crawley , Walsall etc etc etc how they raised money to rebuild or convert stadia ? it can not be paid for by fans that's for sure. It can not be that BRFC are the ONLY club left who can not develop their stadium to even 1990s standard. I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS.

If we could have a 15,000 capacity modern stadium with a decent training ground i would be in heaven as its all we would need unless we established ourselves somehow in the top division.

Very serious issues and doubts have been debated about the owners and not just by the nasty grudge/agenda posters so who knows?

If we could have a 15,000 capacity modern stadium with a decent training ground i would be in heaven as its all we would need unless we established ourselves somehow in the top division. Realistically its all we would need to progress as long as the playing side of things were supported reasonably well. Will it ever happen though? Very serious issues and doubts have been debated about the owners and not just by the nasty grudge/agenda posters so who knows? I'm surprised how short we are now selling ourselves..If we were doing well in league 1 we would easily fill 15k stadium...and that is what I think we are all hoping for a nice ground and good things on the pitch come together. IF, and a big if I know, we were to build why not maximise. If we were to get promoted *dreaming* to the championship I think we would sell out every week in 15k - great we are selling out but think we would be missing out on a few more thousand. It's all with the board now anyway, us fans are massively in the dark I think the best thing would be for the family to sell up if they aren't willing to invest their own money. Amazingly for successful businessmen they have under estimated what running s football club would cost. |

We will have to agree to differ on our fan pulling power,we might sell out a few times in a promotion season into the championship. Bottom half of the championship average gate? about 12k at best for me but respect your alternative view. |

Well the takeover actually gave the potential of the club being owned by people with more money than we are used to at Rovers. The training ground is still moving forward...it hasn't been abandoned ! Nobody who was formerly at Rovers could have found the funds that have been spent on trying to modernise the club over the last year.
Perhaps if many years ago Rovers actually got on with doing things they could achieve rather than the endless pie in the sky plans for things the club couldn't afford things may have ended up better ?
So maybe actually just getting on and building something modest then worrying about it "not being big enough for premier league football" when the club is actually sat in the prem...like at Bournemouth.
The last 35 years has been kept alive by dreams and hope for better things in the future. But its just been dreams the previous custodians have only ever had money raised from selling the ground to offer as money for a new stadium.Nothing else.
Yes the dream was to have something to rival or better ashton gate...but lets face it there was nothing better than rag bag rovers playing at a non league ground knocking city off the top place and taking the championship...in spite of their bigger better stadium....
as there's still no signs of any plans being submitted to S Glos planners. As far as a 15K capacity stadium you talk as though that's something we can build during the summer at minimal cost, however, a decent stadium will still probably cost £30M and there's no signs the ALQ's are prepared to invest that kind of money in the club, it's just all pie in the sky as things stand at the moment.
