Sealing the Sweeney deal perhaps.

Rhetorical question me thinks.
It's mainly because DC spent £300k on Nichols in the summer and he wants him to prove that he was right to spend it by coming good with a goal rush. The fact that both Harrison and Gaffeny have been on form so far this season hasn't helped either.
I agree that Telford has definately not been given a decent opportunity to show what he can do and unfortunately I don't expect him to be with us when the window opens in January as he will probably be recalled by his club.
Although Sweeney hasn't been nearly as good as last season I really hope he sticks around as imo we've got our work cut out finding players for other areas of the pitch tbh.

There is no point getting in loan players if you're not going to play them and they're no better than what you already have IMHO. But DC sees him day in day out in training so he must have his reasons.

Maybe no point under the old rules, but with no loan windows they are now having to be brought in just to make up squad numbers to cover for possible injuries and suspensions. Not a fan of the new system myself.

It's mainly due to Harrison's excellent and consistent form this season which was perhaps unforeseeable when the decision was made to bring Telford into the club. Yes, we do play three up front in most matches however Bodin and Harrison are undroppable which means there is only one place which Telford has to compete for with Nichols and Gaffney. When it's between a striker who is in decent form, another who we paid 350k for in the summer and an unproven loanee, we all know who is going to get the least game time.
Unless we are beset with injury problem's I can see this remaining for the end of the season and Telford will only fall further down the pecking order if we bring a LW into the club in January. This is a shame as from the little I have seen in him, I believe Telford to be a good player. It would probably be better if we return him to Stoke and use the wages elsewhere in the squad for more pressing areas to improve.

Like I suggested on today's match thread Telford was brought in as back up for Nichol not to replace him. I'm not really sure Telford has done anything to prove he deserves to be picked ahead of Nichol.

Sorry need to get this of my chest does anyone know why this bloke not been given a descent chance to prove himself? Anybody really bugging me Why are you fixated on telford though? What about dunwald, russe, hargreaves and menayese? I think telford started both the checkatrade defeats against west ham and swindon and failed to impress. I think others have mentioned that without the emergency loan system we need to sign extra cover.

Imo if a loan player isn't good enough to get into the first XI then they shouldn't be here and the likes of the above should be given a squad place instead of them

On the contrary Nichols has hardly done enough to warrant minutes every week like he is getting.

You have Ellis and Gaffney fighting for a spot and Nichols and Telford for a spot, I think that was the way DC looks at it at the start of the season. How bad does Nichols have to be so Telford gets his chance!

Nichols was brought on again yesterday and as usual did absolutely nothing. As its been mentioned on here before at least Luke James tried!! Nichols has to be DC's worst signing ever!!

I think the snag is with Nichols is that when we pay 300k for a player he simply has to deliver because we never pay that sort of cash! Other clubs drop that sort of money and think nothing of it. Therefore Telford (who I think looks a handy player) won’t get a chance because Nichols has got to be seen to be money well spent. Not all transfers work out but at Rovers they basically have to be world beaters when they cost that much. It’s a vicious circle really because the price tag just adds more pressure to be a success. Hopefully he’llstart banging goals away in the New Year.

I sometimes wonder what our scouting network is all about. The best centre forward I've seen at the Mem this season was Keiffer Moore - a West Country lad languishing at Forest Greem this time last year - Ipswich took a punt on him and bought him for £10k. Woukd he have come to us on loan last summer instead of Rotherham? He would have been an ideal signing playing alongside Ellis and could have saved us the thick end of £300k + we paid for Nicholls. And he has performed much better in a higher league than Christian Doidge.

We are miles behind clubs, it is short sighted, get Pirate from here to do it. Perhaps the forum should sponsor him instead of our players!
