Ok folks it's a little bit late cos we've played 25 and not 23.
But just want to hear your thoughts on BRFC ( the footballing side of things PLEASE) !
1.How are the team doing compared to your pre-season expectations ?
2. How has DC done ?
3.How have the new signings done ? (Nichols, Sercombe, Telford, Bola, Broadbent, Smith, Slocombe and Sweeney (on his return) )
4.Who do you think will leave or would benefit from going/ being loaned out ?
5. Which players/positions you would like to see DC get players in for ?
6. and finally, interestingly, what is your prediction for our final position come May ?

Which players/positions you would like to see DC get players in for ? 6. and finally, interestingly, what is your prediction for our final position come May ? 1) Had expected us to be higher than 16th at this stage. I thought we would be in the top ten but looking at the table we are only actually 5 points adrift which when you think of it that way it does not seem quite so bad I suppose. 2) DC - wouldn't change him for anyone else and am still very happy overall, however I would like him to adopt slightly different tactics at from home. I don't see what is wrong with keeping things tight defensively whilst playing counter attack then unleashing fire and fury for the last 20 mins. To my mind we have been way too gung-ho, we should set up more defensive than at home and see how the game pans out. 3) Sercombe - has been excellent but has more in his locker I think. Sweeney - disappointing compared with last season. Nichols - there's a decent player in there but has been unable to shine due to our narrow formation. Broadbent - what a find! Bola - very good, hope he stays till the end of the season, could prove pivotal imo. Smith & Slocs - both decent but neither up to Lumley standards, prefer Slocs tbh but Smith seems to be getting better. Telford - NOLE! 4) Ditch Moore & Burn, loan out Broom. 5) As a minimum we need to bring in 2 wide players, a defensive midfielder and another striker, but that assumes we keep all players other than those listed above, if we lose any others then we also need replacements. 6) If we do some decent business in Jan and based on the fact that we always seem to be better in the second half of the season I expect us to finish higher than we did last season but not high enough to make the play offs so I reckon 8th. UTG!

1.How are the team doing compared to your pre-season expectations ? About where I expected us to be if I'm honest, maybe expected to be one or two positions higher. 2. How has DC done? He has done ok with what he has to work with, but should have brought in a wide left player and a defensive midfielder during the summer. After all he has done for us I can forgive him one disappointing transfer window. 3.How have the new signings done ? (Nichols, Sercombe, Telford, Bola, Broadbent, Smith, Slocombe and Sweeney (on his return) Nichols has been underwhelming and his lack of goal return disappointing. Telford has looked decent enough when given an opportunity but those opportunities have been few and far between. Bola has done ok in the limited amount of time I've seen him, putting in a good display at Fulham to help us progress. Broadbent hasn't looked out of place considering he has stepped up 5 divisions. After a shaky start Smith has looked good and he has made some impressive saves in the last few weeks. Slocombe has performed well when called upon and is an excellent back up to have. Sweeney has been underwhelming considering his former last season, but I'm sure he will get better. Sercombe has been the pick of the signings and looks a good player. 4.Who do you think will leave or would benefit from going/ being loaned out ? Bodin will possibly go because of his contract situation and the fact he is quality for this level and clubs interested. Byron Moore has struggled and should look to move on. Hopefully Burn moves on permanently. Broom could do with a loan and getting minutes under his belt. 5. Which players/positions you would like to see DC get players in for ? I'd like two wingers, a striker, a defensive midfielder and possibly even a more attacking central midfielder. 6. and finally, interestingly, what is your prediction for our final position come May ? Between 10th-14th.

I expected us to be in 10th to 14th place and then pushing on in the second half of the season. 2. DC has done ok. It's a tougher league this year (IMO). The summer window didn't end as planned and I suspect there were a couple of late let downs which has affected the balance of the squad. 3. Nicholls has quality but struggled as the team have struggled and not really played where he'd like. I still think he'll come good and won't join the with hunt. Sercombe very good. Telford not seen enough. Bola not shown enough when he has played. Broadbent excellent first few months as a later comer to pro football. Smith/Slocombe both done well and both made mistakes, generally two good league one keepers. Sweeney disappointing. 4. Would loan out a couple of the youngsters, nobody will take Moore and perhaps switch Telford no Bola for two new loanees. 5. Would like a left winger (and right if BB goes), a big strong ball winning centre mid and an experienced centre half - to help off as well as on the pitch. 6. Predict a 10th place finish.

C-
Oddly, pre-season DC listed a large number of positions that he wanted. From my interpretation he fell short, missing out on a DM and Left sided midfielder.
Had we got these I believe we would likely be 6/7 points better off and feeling more optimistic season.
On the one hand, I find it comforting and competent that DC knows his squad. On the other, the failure to get his targets has cost a better season. Frustrating! In previous seasons, DC would have pulled a rabbit out in the emergency loan window. Lessons learnt we go again.

1.How are the team doing compared to your pre-season expectations ? No expectations, was not impressed with the planning and non activity through the summer recruitment campaign.
2. How has DC done ? See above, suffering from poor summer planning/recruitment/non backing from board level?
3.How have the new signings done ? (Nichols, Sercombe, Telford, Bola, Broadbent, Smith, Slocombe and Sweeney (on his return) ) Sercombe good enough, Broadbent very good (considering) all the rest average +or- a point or two.
4.Who do you think will leave or would benefit from going/ being loaned out ? Best left to the manager as you would thing he would know?
5. Which players/positions you would like to see DC get players in for ? A quality midfield general in the Holloway mould, a whole new defensive 4 (one or two of our existing may pick up with quality/experience alongside) left and right winger with pace and crossing ability.
6. and finally, interestingly, what is your prediction for our final position come May ? lower half to mid table finish.

Interesting stuff so far - personally I agree pretty much with most of the posters so far.
1. End of season - I had us for 8th -10th now I think 12th -15th would be a good result in May but think it'll be lower.
2. DC done a good job - I thought he should've rested Lines and Ollie earlier than he did. He rightly dropped Sweeney and Brown when he did. Locks has escaped the drop - think he should've have been but no-one to step in for him (maybe in Jan he'll get some stiff comp). Think DC went attacking at the start of season - that's to be applauded !! but defence and midfield let him down ( see above)
3. Sercs very good - assists and goals, perhaps a bit over -eager in his play sometimes, Bola - not convinced he's got the tenacity for L1, Telford not given a run of games when he was looking good, now tailed off. Nichols - almost given up on him. Sweeney - can't believe how poor he's been, Smith and Slocombe ok but not at Lumley level. Broadbent - promising but too much to expect him to play 20+ games/regularly for first season.
4 and 5. We must get players in to have a POSITIVE end to the season - left -midfielder, experienced right-sided CB and central def midfielder. Would like a few others but prob summer is more realistic. Bodin will go- so somebody for him. Hope Broom and Moore will get games somewhere else as they are not good enough. Burn too.
6. Finishing position will be 16th - 18th.

The others will come good. 4. I don't think we can afford to let anyone out on loan. 5. I think DC needs to get in 4 or 5 players in January. Even if we have to dip into the conference to get them. 6. 8th

Its been a tough season on and off the field. The manager wanted a £4m playing budget and was turned down flat, its about £2.5m although shrewsbury towns budget is similar.
1] I made a thread in august "we could struggle" we are 2] I think dc has struggled to hide his frustration but still has the players support. 3]The new signings have struggled in the main but their all busting a gut to prove themselves to BRFC. menayese and broadbent look good prospects and sercombe is clearly a good player. 4]I could easily see lines, moore, telford, harrison and bodin going in january. 5]Centre-back,,combative centre midfield but we have no money! 6]11th-20th

Only watched three games this season so perhaps this sums up what I think of our Club.
Expectations lowered, owners failing to communicate or build and players doing enough for mid-table.
Disappointed but expected.

1.How are the team doing compared to your pre-season expectations ? Disappointing. I thought league one would be tougher this season but I thought we would be similar to last season. We are probably about 6 places below where I expect us to be. 2. How has DC done ? Again slightly disappointing. One thing I will say (see what I did there ) is that my expecations under DC are abnormally high. I think he has been slightly handicapped compared to a lot of teams in this league but he still had £300k to spend on a striker and that looks to have been blown on Tom Nichols unless he improves dramatically. 3.How have the new signings done ? (Nichols, Sercombe, Telford, Bola, Broadbent, Smith, Slocombe and Sweeney (on his return) Nichols - Extremely disappointing Sercombe - Overall a good signing but not so great lately. Telford - Who knows, the guy hasn't had a look in Bola - Good cover at the least, still a bit naive at times but hope he stays Broadbent - Good value for money but again a bit naive at times and can get turned quite easily Smith - OK, I feel like we have 2 average keepers rather than 1 really good one. Smith is in good form lately. Slocombe - Same as above really. Sweeney - Extremely disappointing. Was an absolute rock last season and was a big reason why I had higher expectations. 4.Who do you think will leave or would benefit from going/ being loaned out ? Broom - needs game time, loan him out Byron Moore - Get rid Johnny Burn - get rid, although practically already gone. 5. Which players/positions you would like to see DC get players in for ? Left wing and Defensive midfielder. 6. and finally, interestingly, what is your prediction for our final position come May ? 14th.

1)After last year, when we were always within a good run of getting into play offs, i thought the play offs were well within our reach this year, but we did lose a 20 goal striker, and as its turned out never replaced him, which was of some concern .as was the goalkeeper situation, on the whole i think we are 6 points off our par. 2)DC is still a relatively young inexperienced manager at this level and has been seriously tested. I believe he will learn a tremendous amount this year and be all the stronger and a better manager for it, you learn so much from perceived failures ,much more than from your successes, i am convinced with our support and crucially that of the board he will take us to "our summit". 3)Nichols..i would have Luke James back as a swap tomorrow, similar goal tally but Luke gave so much more to the team. Sercs ..good and more to come. Broadbent ..tremendous potential , will become a rock! Telford...who knows unfair to judge.Bola... adequate as cover...Smith/Slocombe...adequate. Sweeney...cant quite understand why he is so different to last year..but worth keeping. 4)pointless keeping Moore if hes not to get a run of games, loan for broome though as he came through ranks would like to see him get a run of games to see if he can make it, either give Telford a few games or return and replace.perhaps loan Lines out to a league 2 club? 5)Believe dominant confident goalkeeper would do wonders to strengthen defense ,is Lumley doing anything theses days?winger, remember that tripled barreled name winger we had on loan was it Lyle van something or other!whats he up to now?and a natural finisher aka Richard walker, bless him ,not the most mobile but give him a sniff he rarely missed!look back at the two wembley goals, not easy but he made it look so!have a look in lower leagues,if you have a knack of being in the right place at the right time you can put em away any where ! we used to find them, Hayles,Roberts, ellington, etc,not as well up on our own young ones as i should be but is there anyone there whos a natural ? if so give em a go!on that thread give meyo a run in back 4 ,he deserves it 6}reckon we will finish 10th again.and that will do for now......up the Rovers!
