Looking at the table we are smack bang in mid table although nearer points wise to the bottom 4 rather than the top 7. Which is probably, table wise, the best it’s been for almost 10 years. But this forum has been so negative this season and I’m sure it is because of the UWE/dround announcements 3 days before the season started and an almost silent owner since. It’s easy to get down about the ground stuff but I’ve tried to look to the team as opposed to the other which I can’t do anything about. In the last few months we’ve beaten Portsmouth, Bradford and Rotherham all after being behind and they are all competing for the play offs. We were unlucky not to get anything at Blackburn. We are well below Wigan at the moment but so are most teams and Shrewsbury have gone a different way to us in having more loans to take them to the top. It’s worked for them this season but it might not next season.I saw us outplay R and B but missed the Pompey match and I’m sure there will be others who’ve seen us more than me but imo DC is absolutely right to be picky over who he signs. The characters in our squad appear to be top class and Mensah joining seems to be a really positive, good addition. So yes I hope we sign a few more but we’re doing ok and with TL and TB signing new contracts we might have learnt some lessons from MT and BB. Not being itk means I’m probably unaware of some stuff others seem to know chapter and verse about but so what I’m never sure if they really do know stuff or are making half a fact or just a rumour go a long long way. Whatever, im looking forward to the rest of the season, perhaps 1/2 more signings but knowing that we will have a goodish squad in place for next season. UTG! Three points from me : 1.) Our away form has been dreadful and we are probably heading for a very low points tally AWAY - so an indication that we are not promotion/play off candidates this season. Only thing that might change that now is strengthening the starting 11 - unlikely to happen !? 2.) I'll be disappointed if we either finish with fewer points or in a lower position than last season. You want to make progress each season unless some kind of disaster hits the team - like 3 players out injured for the season ! 3.) Very pleased that our home form has picked up (shows that DC is a very good manager), but we've already lost more at home this season than last.

That way of looking at it does a good job of glossing over our, frankly, disgusting amount of goals conceded away from home and our away form in general which has to be the chief reason for negativity, on the pitch at least. Our last away victory was in October and although we have managed to at least stop the defensive rot from what I have read and commentary I have heard of our recent away games we do not look like winning those games ourselves.
We seem to be a weaker side in general than last season so challenging for the play-offs is probably a comical ask, but we should be able to win the odd away game more than we are doing at the moment to make our chances of staying in league one more comfortable, imo.

It’s a shame that we haven’t got Ebbsfleet away this Saturday, as it would mean that we would be in the 4th round of the FA cup. 4th round of what? FA Cup? Never heard of it. Neither has DC! 😉 UTG!

That is bad, but not as bad as this monstrosity!

Is that it then, not to expect anything simply because we were playing in the conference a few seasons ago? This is the sort of talk that will get us right back there imo. No it’s not that but we need to grow within our means, which I hope we are doing. We improve the squad each window by 1/2 players, keep our best ones and hope the development squad can produce a few. What will get us back there will be spending what we haven’t got, getting the wrong people in and handing out 3-year deals to dross. I hope we are learning about how to judge our better players and give them the longer contracts not everyone. UTG!

Don’t think I glossed over it. Agree with our goals against total being poor but on the surface DC did what we all wanted by getting Sweeney but overall it hasn’t worked out the way we wanted. Still DC has halted our very poor away record with the draws, now we need to get a few wins. I read the same reports and thought that we could have won at Blackburn and Blackpool. But in the end we didn’t and we are where we are, half way up the table. Agree that MT and BB have left a big hole but we have overcome it pretty well though not completely. UTG!

Well this post is a nice change of pace, good one! I said before I’d be more than happy with a 10th place finish again, especially considering we’ve now lost our best player in January... again. I think we’ve got enough in our current squad to finish where we are now as a minimum, so a couple of signings will only help the cause surely, ether way I think 10th is very doable. Utg

Good Post Wareham (be I Hampshire ? be I buggery....... 😀 ) Anyway I digress, yes more than happy with our current status, in fact it's almost like when I first started going in the 60's - Third division, good seasons followed by mediocre ones, score a lot, let in a lot. Loved it all, though I used to end up frustrated at the end of the season, until that great Friday night at Roots Hall. However, 1 times have changed & people are not patient anymore to wait for success - it has to be now, it's almost a cultural thing and younger folk are being brought up with this mindset. 2. Adding that to todays expectation when going to a football game, gone are the days of being crammed in the Tote End, with the beautiful smell of Gas wafting in and the smoke of a lovely Woodbine in your face, people want a nice bogs, good food, a pint (without having to queue) and a decent stadium to watch the game. 3. Football has moved on drastically & as a club we have not. We had a wake up call in 2014 & due to a fine manager (IMO) he has got us back to a respectable position on the field. But unless things start shaping up off the field we could end up in a worse place. I briefly tuned in to the start of the game shown on sky last night - packed stadium, the flags idea was brilliant - I hated all of the 3 mins I watched, but what about the kids & neutrals, where are they going to go in the future? We all would like quality signings to improve the team, but If we can't afford them so be it, I don't get all the negativity towards DC but I can understand the negitivity around the apparent lack of planning around the infrastructure. Keep hold of DC & we can evolve the team but evolution needs to be speeded up off the field, I think DC is eluding to this on various interviews. I am living in hope rather than expectation now, but hey, enjoying the football again now & the effort from the lads UTG

When we were relegated out of the football league and playing in the conference I thought to myself if we get back into the league I will be so grateful that I will never moan about Rovers again. At the time I never dreamt we would be in league 1 in two years. I am happy where Rovers are at the moment, considering where we have been but when I first started supporting the club in the 70's I never dreamt the club would be relegated to the fourth tier let alone out of the league. So I think we need to look up the league and push forward so hopefully we can get back to where I use to think we belong. We have a lot to thank D C and the players that have been with us over the past few years for getting us to where we are I am certainly grateful to all of them . My only disappointment is that we have a stadium where some of our fantastic supporters still have to stand out in the rain or sit in a tent to watch the team, this is disgraceful for such a club the size of Rovers with such fantastic support.

Someone once said "The only way to get out of mediocrity is to keep shooting for excellence" Mediocrity is fine for me at the moment but not aiming for more is a dangerous game. Winners don’t settle for mediocrity. Aiming high is for aspirational people. We can and must think big again. Why not us?
