It divided the city exactly a year ago: the acrimonious transfer of Matty Taylor from Bristol Rovers to Bristol City.
The 27-year-old forward made the switch to Ashton Gate in the last hours of the last day of the January 2017 transfer window for a fee widely reported to be around £300,000 - due to a contract clause - and few Bristolians will ever forget the swoop.
City head coach Lee Johnson later had to move house after death threats in early 2017, although the former Barnsley and Oldham boss is unsure if the threats were from angry Gasheads or even City fans due to the Robins' bad results at the time - watch for yourself in the video above.
And the Bristol Post asked Johnson this week whether what happened last season would put off the head coach from buying from City's closest rivals again.
"No, I wouldn't rule out anything," he said, also laying to rest rumours that there was anything untoward about the transfer that took place this time last year.
"That deal was done genuinely with the absolute best interests of all parties. There was no skulduggery, no underhand tactics, and it was about us believing the player was right for the football club.
"Whether he plays for Bristol Rovers, Bognor Regis or Brighton and Hove Albion, it doesn't matter. You try and get the deal done.
"I've been delighted with Matty since he's come in. I love him as a character - he's a fantastic lad and the other lads love him.
"I feel sorry for him because he's had a stinker of a season due to injury. What I mean is that when he's performed well his body and his injuries haven't enabled him to be in peak form, which I thought we saw at the end of last season.
"I was really excited about Matty Taylor this season because I thought towards the end of last season his work rate was outstanding.
"He gets himself in goal-scoring areas and it's difficult because any player that doesn't have a pre-season is chasing. Not only are they chasing their own body but the players who are performing very well.
"The experiment with Bobby Reid has clearly worked out very well and it's knocked a couple down the pecking order or they've had to wait their chance. Every time Matty's got his chance he's done well. But then unfortunately something around the corner has niggled away at him and he hasn't been able to sprint at his maximum or train at his maximum.
"He hasn't trained for the last three or four weeks now. So he's been working away from the boys and turning up for match days so it's been difficult to have him on the bench and start him.
"The Watford game is a good example - he hadn't trained for 10 days and then he started that. He coped very well but it's not easy for him to do that," explained Johnson.
The Bristol Post then asked if the rumours of a secret handshake between City and Rovers had actually taken place, whereby agreeing that there should be no more poaching of players between the two sides.
"No, I'm certainly not aware of any of that. I don't think it should be like that to be honest. Both ways," explained Johnson.
"Because I think that if a Bristol City player is surplus and Bristol Rovers wanted him then I don't think that should be an issue either.
"I know it is sometimes - I know there's been a history of good and bad signings across the board but come on, we're big boys and it's about our own teams becoming the best that they can be.
"And playing within the rules to make that happen.
"I'm certainly not aware of that [the agreed pact between both clubs] but it may be the case, I don't know," explained Johnson.
Bristol City are preparing to face Gary Madine-less Bolton Wanderers on Friday night.

It was my understanding it was C*ty fans with the death threats not Gasheads?

At that time, he'd have gotten friggin' plaudits from Gasheads - so I highly doubt it was from us

"Because I think that if a Bristol City player is surplus and Bristol Rovers wanted him then I don't think that should be an issue either" ALL PARTIES?? Yes you sign our best striker for half of what he's worth at a time that makes it impossible to replace him with anyone remotely likely to possess the same quality at the price that sounds like the perfect deal for us let's shake on it quick before you change your mind. Second point ...players that are "surplus" can of course move where they like...the supposed handshake was not about them it was about bidding for each other's high performing stars and unbalancing their squad (and fans). This again is likely only to apply one way anyway. They have shown they move in different circles now. Any player of theirs that would create a similar type of hole in their team would a) command a fee we have no appetite or ability to pay and b) would expect wages completely at odds with our pay structure. We simply aren't fishing in that pond.

If AFC Bournemouth, or Swansea or even Huddersfield Town wanted one of 82's best players they would be able to get them. If not now at the end of the season when and if they stay up and the sh** don't go up.
Bristol Rovers have a bigger fan base than all of those clubs and have the potential to do equally as well provided that one day we have owners capable and willing to invest.

Huddersfield have averaged more fans than us since about the 1920's.

City fans have made the BBC Midlands news.Seems their supporters were put on a train and not allowed to go to a game at Birmingham which they are claiming infringed their rights so it's going to the European Commission for human rights.Suspect the police had good reason .You couldn't make it up!!!!!

Being as you're from Staffs you might know about the pub full of Stoke fans who were unceremoniously deported back to the Potteries by the GMP before a game at Man Utd. They basically cleared the pub and put everyone on busses back to Stoke, including a few locals who had only popped out for a lunchtime pint. The Stoke fans sued the police and won sizeable compensation.

We simply aren't fishing in that pond. To be fair we did have Matthews and Akinde from them...but it soon became apparent why they were willing to let them join us! I certainly can't remember City selling or loaning us anyone of any great quality and I doubt that will ever change. Not sure I want it to either!

Why would Gasheads send death threats when he seemed to be doing is best to get them relegated at the time, that's just a ridiculous suggestion. As far as him signing Rovers players I thought his bosses had a gentleman's agreement with Wael so really it doesn't matter what it thinks anyway.

Wait a year and put out a story with a completely different spin or to most people a complete load of b*****. Re-writing what happened knowing that having dodged a few bullets then he can say what he wants now after the successes, for him, of the last few months. Trust in karma though, what’s goes around comes around! UtG!

Just trying to wind up Rovers fans and staff hoping it will have a negative effect on the club. Its part of the BCFC 1982 sports dept ltd. attempts at saying we are bigger than you.
As in City can buy Rovers best players Rovers might be able to have one of Citys surplus players.
He is full of it at present but it will all fall apart within the year and he will be unemployed so remember to let him know you are laughing at him when the time comes.
