IMO they give us a bloody lot!
With Mensah and Bennett it means we could go to 4-4-2 with two widemen and still have Byron Moore as cover for both wings and if we did that we would then have Sinclair, Ollie Clarke, Lines and Sercombe going for the two central midfield positions with Partington also able to play there.
We could play with one winger and three of the four central midfielders.
It seems both Bennett and Mensah could play forward positions and in the same way Ellis could easily play on the wing.
We have Ellis, Gaffney, Telford and Nicholls going for two forward positions but again could go to three forwards.
Onto the defence we now have the experienced head we have been after who could easily also captain the side and he can cover either the central defending positions or the full back spot which now means we have Lockyer, Craig, Sweeney and Broadbent all who could do useful jobs and I don't envy DC's job of selecting which ones to use!! Full backs could see Brown, Bola or Craig on the left and Bola could also challenge for the right back spot with Partington and Leadbitter.
It will be very interesting to see the team selected today and also who misses out completely on a squad place. I have a feeling that the bench will be more attacking for home games and more defensive for away games thereby using the whole squad.
On transfer day I was feeling let down but by 11am the following day IMO DC had done an excellent job and I fully expect the signings to put an extra 500 on the gate today. Its a very tough game today but it is also a very exciting one and DC has probably given himself a few headaches to think about who he will select to start after a great run of results!! UTG

Mensah I am looking forward to seeing get more game time, but felt we could have done better than Bennett and Craig.
Bennett especially is well overrated by many on here, not much better than Moore imo but am willing to judge him on his appearances for the gas as that is what matters.
I would still have liked a physical striker as well, have always been keen on the lad Payne at Shrewsbury. Someone in that mould would suit us.

lastminutewinner, I tend to agree on the striker but can't agree on your over rated comment. How do you know how Bennett will play for us? I rate signings on how they play for us and not on how they have performed for other clubs.Byron Moore was a good player before he signed for us but has IMO been affected by matters outside of the game. As regards Craig his experience will be great for us and I will wait 10 games before I have an overall opinion on ANY of the signings.

We will have to wait and see but I don't see Craig and Bennett as players to push us on into the play offs or beyond.
Hope i'm wrong, but having seen Bennett play about 10 times (albeit for other clubs) I don't think I will be.
Craig, i've not seen that much of to be fair, just feel other L1 clubs have bought better in his position.
Regarding Moore the warning signs were there; family tragedy and loss of form. Only really hit any form with one club, Crewe, much the same as Luke James at Hartlepool.

For Bennett we could always read Bodin (or even the snake) as nobody really rated him when we signed him but we all know how that turned out, plus I can't imagine Pompey would give a player who's that good a new 3 year contract in the summer following their promotion.
My only concern is whether our CM's are up to reverting to playing just two in the middle when we go 4-4-2, CL/OC doesn't look the pairing it was last season, CL/LS too weak and CL/SS never works. Perhaps DC's thinking of more of 4-3-3 to counteract that potential issue?
I just hope more flair upfront leads to TN or DT starting to find the net.
Not sure when I last looked forward to an home match as much as today's!

Craig looks a decent experienced Championship player, not sure who these other players are who've signed for other clubs but if they've all signed better quality Championship players we're in for an hard end to the season!! Darren Beckworth shows that a player on paper isn't the same when he gets on the pitch. Given that you are generally negative about anything Rovers related it's no surprise you slagging off our new signings before they've even kicked a ball for the club, you have to wonder why you bother supporting Rovers as it must be bl00dy annoying when we win the way you feel about the club at present.

Playing Devils Advocate - is the squad/team any stronger?
We've lost the thee 'B's' - Bodin, Burn & Broom. Remember DC saying he had a small squad before the window. We've gained Mensah - hopefully a real talent for the future - is he any better than Broom at the moment - maybe. Bennett better than Bodin - not a chance, Craig better than Burn - most definitely. So overall, IMO and without the benefit of hindsight we've probably just about maintained the previous position with maybe a little bit more flexibility in the squad. We still have the problem of the CDM position - the one disappointment for me that DC was unable to sign a strong experienced pro for that position.
Really looking forward to today - I feel we're going to win - that's put the knockers on it!!!

Not at all Topper I feel these signings are ok to consolidate in L1 and hey, that's what most of us wanted anyway wasn't it?
Depends on your ambition for the club really, I just thought DC's would be a bit higher.
Anyway you know what you can do if you don't want to read my opinions

Well we should at least give all signings the opportunity to gel with rest of the team, have the management explain our system and let them play a few games before we pass judgment. And as other posters have said, DC does have a good eye for players that will fit.
