The problem s that we have a generation of fans who have only known success order D C and forget hat we have a history of excellent players managers and staff prior to DC. The point I initially made was that DC is nt the greatest manager we ever had MY OPINION And all pain of the last 50 years too, old gits definitely rule!

Ollie spent more I believe, even back then compared to today. Holloway? You're having a right laugh there. Hes not fit to be in the same room as DC. professional Bristolian who's an embarassment to Bristol every time he's on TV. Think you quoted the wrong post there!

Midlandgas we all no for some reason your not Clarks biggest fan but it's true with the modern game how it is today no other manager apart from maybe Holloway could do what D.C. has done with next to no resources Ollie spent more I believe, even back then compared to today. Holloway had Penrice and Everson two of the best talent finders in the game. He as a result had much better individual players but never managed to achieve promotion despite that. What DC has achieved with next to no reaources pretty much on his own has been amazing.

The overwhelming majority of us fans have total respect and admiration for DC... Rovers without him is a frightening thought

Agree, DC success has to be seen on basis of how far we have come and with what, not necessarily just how high he has taken us. Without doubt he has transformed us from non league has beens to outside chance contenders.

The best football I've ever seen from us is under Holloway. Some of the football we played before the wheels fell off was breathtaking but the most effective team was Gerry's from 1990. We never knew when we were beaten, the spirit was fantastic and we did have some very good players too. I think we have forgotten how many good footballers were in that team.

I have never doubted DC. He is a good manager and a great fit for Rovers.

DC getting us promoted again would more than equal GF 1990 I think, barring the lack of the drubbing we gave City and getting an automatic. . . Details details. But I think would far surpass Ollie who had a very strong team but still slipped out of play offs on last day of season, losing to a relegated Cardiff. Great team, good to watch but ultimately buggered it up, sadly. Recall vividly the disappointment at the time, and the “don’t worry we’ll go again” talk but it all fell appart. Ability to sustain in way DC seems to be able to is a mark of class

I was a lad in the Francis years and him getting us to the championship was remarkable combined with a cup final appearance as well makes him and that team the best. Shame he ruined it by his return in 2000.
Holloway gave us the best football, he also has the advantage of derby games for memories as well. The game in 2000, the 2-0 win at the Mem was the best game and atmosphere only matched by the Dagenham game when we got promoted.
However DC is the best manager of the modern era, and certainly the best we could ever attract, want and need. He has certainly given us our rovers back. The never say die, never give up and passion for the shirt. After years of crap managers I am grateful we have DC. DC will certainly go down as one of our best managers. And rightfully so.

Been supporting The Rovers since as long as I can remember. I can't remember my first day of school but I can recall my first Rovers game. I've loved every team and manager since, but D.C. is very special, just something about him that sets him apart. He can get us to the promised land. Here endith the first lesson. UTG!

Too young for Megson but I would name Francis and DC as the best 2 managers in my lifetime. Followed by Holloway and Trollope/Lawrence. I’d agree , Megson was just before my time. D.C. is just nudging ahead of Francis now for me .utg

We played some good stuff under David Williams, Holloway gave us some special times, but ultimately couldn't get promotion. Gerry was superb, assembled a team on a shoe string, with players that refused to be beaten. DC has been undoubtably a saviour, bringing pride back to a club on its ass. If he could get promoted from league 1, he would definitely be the greatest for me. UTG

UTG OK, so . . . - shoestring, crap set up, no home, failed wembley trip, kick the sh** really hard, automatic promotion to tier 2 vs - shoestring, crap (but improving?!) set up, crap home, successful wembley trip and promotion to tier 4, automatic promotions to tier 3, "print that Bastard" and still more to come Please don't leave DC, its all still ahead of us!

Gerry Francis just for me - took us to the Championship on a shoestring. DC second. David Williams and Ian Holloway in joint third. Found Paul Trollope a bit dull! Bobby Gould would have to be in the mix as well. Can't split Buckle or Magoo for last place
