Tom Nichols: Gas meltdown incoming

DC really rates Nicholls as he did with Luke James. What does he see in these two? Whenever Nicholls comes on as sub he seems to achieve almost nothing - scratches head in bewilderment.

Didn't agree with the subs either. Bennett was dire. Would have subbed him off instead of Sercombe. Genuinely think the subs lost us the game. We looked too lightweight going forward. Moore for Clarke was fair but I would have brought on Gaffney for Bennett and gone 4-4-2 with Moore and Sercombe out wide.

I don’t expect them to post videos of him running up and down the steps to the east stand after training but he comes across as someone who likes the champagne life

the thing is you can’t build a man up who refuses to acknowledge he’s at the bottom!

Not sure why the guys Instagram profile been brought up. What's wrong with It? Mainly football, his misses and a night out? The worst thing I saw was 4 - 2 result against us he posted and of last season.

Footballing wise. He is not setting the world a light.. needs to be seen to work harder and show more aggression. He is soft. Reminds me of Ellis when he was going through the motions.

I don't think our current system works for him either..I think he would benefit with a fast pace midfield behind him that is dynamic, can get the ball out wide but can also play through the middle. DC would have to recruit well to deliver this though.

Perhaps DC should get him to read this forum over the weekend & report back his findings on Monday - he'll need some building back up then!
Seriously, I think he is a tidy footballer, who, on DC's admission, is not playing in his preferred position. He might be at his best playing alongside a big CF, but if he can't adapt to the way DC plays then that's too bad for everyone.
The thing that gets up everyone's nose is that we 'reportedly' paid over £300 grand for him, so obviously want to see goals from him. DC & MS would have thought he had the ability to fit into our style of play, but at present its not worked. I think DC should send him off to the development squad for a month to gain some confidence. 
If the effort wasn't there DC wouldn't have him in the squad. DC has got it right more often than not & it may well work out in the long run. Keep Calm Support Bristol Rovers  UTG 

Yeah that was the most frustrating thing today .
Everytime we played two or three consecutive passes together we seemed to end up back where we started and played a long ball.
They were sh**e and if we’d plsyed it on the ground and more direct we would have destroyed them but we never looked to get around them or behind them other than a five minute spell in the first half.
We got what we deserved in a way , even though we were the only side to try and play football, you can’t play it all in front of them and expect to win, you’ve got to get behind.

Signings don’t always work out, for a variety of reasons. I’m sure DC recognises this and has a plan to offload any excess baggage . These things take time.
