We could easily have signed Curtis Nelson and Sonny Bradley, that would have taken care of the CB positions for a good few years!! Instead we sign Hartley and Craig... So you know for certain that both players were prepared to join us and we could meet their wage demands? We can't compete with Oxford according to DC in a recent interview. There's so many good players we could have signed in hindsight, DC can't get it right all of the team, it's a credit to the man that he gets transfers right as often as he does already.

We have averaged more fans than Oxford for about the last 10 years and Oxford don't even own their own ground. Their former chairman recently said: "we continue to have no benefit from revenues generated at the ground on match days, and we continue to pay an occupancy cost to Firoka that we feel is out of step with the service we receive." I was hoping with the arrival of our new fantastically *cough* wealthy owners we might be able to compete in the market with the likes of Oxford United.

Surprised that your so naive as to believe attendances is such a big deal in modern football. Especially after a poster recently posted the turnovers for clubs in league one with rovers well below some very modest clubs including shrewsbury.

I'm not naive, but just expected our turnover to be good enough to compete for players with a club who don't even own their own ground and a chairman moaning about occupancy costs and match day revenues.

We've sold MT & BB for peanuts whilst Oxford have sold the likes of Roofe & co for getting on for £10m, even so they still find themselves below us in the table.

I think they have new owners now. Will be interesting to see who they appoint as manager and what players they sign for next season. Fact is we dont seem to be serious contenders for the best players available to clubs at this level.

Which is credit to DC and his man management skills and a slight on Pep Clotet's abilities to get the best out of his players. I wonder if they would have still been below us if Appleton had still been in charge?

If anyone ever feels worried about our foreign owners, just think how it could be so much worse.
Firoz Kassam (born 1955) is a British businessman. Born and brought up in Tanzania, of Indian descent, he came to Britain at the age of 19. He owned Oxford United F.C. from 1999 to 2006,and was named the 309th wealthiest person in the UK in the Sunday Times Rich List 2009 with an estimated fortune of £180 million.
Starting out with a fish and chip shop, Kassam made his fortune as a slum hotelier and in the 1980s was labelled a "merchant of misery".He bought run-down London hostels and hotels and was paid by local councils to fill them with homeless people and asylum seekers, until the inmates rebelled over the conditions in which they were being housed.
In 1999, Kassam bought Oxford United F.C. for £1, also taking over its debts, estimated to be in the region of £13m. In 2000, he resumed building a 12,500-capacity stadium at Minchery Farm on the edge of Oxford, which he called the Kassam Stadium. Construction of this stadium had actually been in progress since 1997, but was suspended in the early stages due to the club's financial problems. The fourth side of the stadium was left empty due to Oxford's decline in the league, as they had dropped down two divisions while the stadium was being built. The development includes a hotel, cinema, bowling alley, gym, health centre and restaurants. Oxford United played its first game there on 18 August 2001, in Division Three of the Football League. Kassam sold the football club in 2006, but retained ownership of the stadium through his company Firoka with Oxford United (and later also London Welsh RFC) as tenants. Oxford United's old home, the Manor Ground in Headington, was sold by Kassam, first to his own holding company for £6 million, and then to developers for £12 million in 1999. The ground has since been demolished and developed into the Manor Hospital, which opened in October 2004.

Dc's better with midfielders and strikers. I don't think he can sort out our defence and keeper on his own. We need a defence coach. He also needs to look towards the future and keep picking the more progressive keeper - Slocombe, Smith isn't up to it. He needs to put his faith in Broadbent too - again a more progressive player who carries the ball out of defence and plays it on the deck rather than hoof it. Let's hope he can avoid experimenting with selections through the first 15 games of the season. To be fair he’s always done the experiment first half of season thing and we’ve done alright haven’t we ? I get what your saying it can be very frustrating but it’s not how you start it’s where you finish and we’ve improved every season.
