I am going to stick my scrawny neck out and say.......I still think there is a player in there. I still reckon he can get us goals. However, as long as he is played wide/deep then he isn't going to score those goals.

Think Telford will always score goals - bit of a combo Telford and Nichols upfront which should score goals at that level so hopefully Nichols might fill his boots in the 2nd half

However, as long as he is played wide/deep then he isn't going to score those goals. In the game against Rochdale at home he was played in a front two with Gaffney and to be honest he never looked remotely like scoring. Now there's not so much at stake, I wouldn't mind seeing Nichols feature a bit more in a front two, perhaps with Harrison this time as direct hard working Harrison and fox in the box Nichols could complement each other quite well.

I would play him up top alongside Ellis for all of the remaining games. I agree with Nobbygas that there is a player there, perhaps a run without fear of being dropped, crowd behind him and the rub of the green in front of goal could see a surge in confidence and we'll see a totally different player? No way should we be writing off a young player this early as some wanted to do with Ellis in previous years. My only concern with the way DC sets the team up at the moment is when he plays two up front with a diamond in midfield the strikers are told to play really far apart, presumably to create space for the attacking midfielder to run in to? Whatever the reason, that style will make life harder for Nicholls who I think would benefit from playing much closer to Ellis and feeding of his physicality.

I wonder who the trialists are?

Telford certainly deserves a first team appearance more than Nichols, but we have to be looking at our own contracted players at the moment, and with not much at stake (as others have said), he may as well give Nichols a go.
Would be entertaining if nothing else.

I think we are at that time of the year where a number of young players at clubs in the Prem/Championship have already been told they will not be offered a new contract, so with their current clubs permission, they are on the lookout for a new club, which is probably why we are seeing 'trialists' in the Development Squad.
