Having repeatedly reviewed this on Sky playback.
Here is my take.
As both players go for the ball Bennet cuts across the defender and thus is now just in front of the defender. The Bury defender from behind does appear to just about touch the ball first resulting in the ball rolling forward slowly. As a result of playing and being first to the ball he brings Bennent down. If Bennet is not brought down could he have still got to the ball before the ball goes out of play? So the question for me is not who got the ball first but if the tackle is from behind and also brings down the player in front down and who also could have kept the ball alive. So for me Bennet could have kept the ball alive so its a foul in the penalty area and a penalty correctly given. Any ref's out here see a flaw in my argument.

Bennett clearly jumps on the floor before any contact is made. It's a dive. But it's justice for the Plymouth game.

No pen for me. Very soft. But the red gave it so it was a pen.

Shoulder barge with elbow raised in the area - stone wall pen.

Said at the time, clumsy challenge from behind prob got a bit of ball but definitely plenty of player too. Bennett won the pen by cleverly nipping in front of the defender as he went to play the ball but it’s still a pen.

Clumsy tackle, made from behind, he puts his arm into Bennett’s back. How is that not a penalty? Bennett may have drawn the foul with his niftiness and agility, but a foul it was, and if that’s inside the box then it’s a penalty. If you make a “tackle” like that inside the box then you get what may you deserve or you may get lucky. If that was against us at that point in the game (or any point, for that matter) we’d all be pretty hacked off.

Similar to Bola's in an away game, it seemed a harsh decision but a silly challenge to make in the area anyway. I wonder if away teams ever get similar decisions given in their favour?

Just as well it wasn't this Ref 1 min 16 secs Rochdale v Shrews. The Shrews keeper reminds me of Wembley 2007 Another strange incident from that game:

Seen them given and also players booked for diving it depends what mood the ref is in.

I thought it was a nailed-on pen from my seat in the Popular stand. Having seen it again the Bury player tackles from behind. That must mean he impedes Benno which in turn means a pen.
After the avalanche of s hit decisions we've suffered this season it's about time something went our way.
Thought their player down the right flank looked decent, one for us to scout?

I thought their 24 was very good not sure we’re talking about the same player ? 24 was more of a deep playmaker.

Was that their number 16? Turned Bola two times and sent dangerous passes in? Caught the eye

Ps At the time I thought definite pen from east stand.
Replays not as convinced but far from certain either way.
In cricket it would be classed as umpires call.....i think it's fair to give a penalty, the defender is taking huge risk challenging from behind.
And their defence is a walking disaster..

Thought it was a pen at the time and after watching it back a few time I think it's a very soft one.
Bennet is certainly looking for it and their player gets the ball first.
If it was given against us I'd be upset.

I always go by would the other side have wanted it approach for free kicks and penalties and a Bury would have wanted it
