Well bully for them. Doesn't mean the situation is the same for everyone. All Ipgas is telling us is how some Muslim friends of his feel. They aren't not going to football because they don't feel comfortable, they don't go because they can't be arsed. Anyone would think there are crowds of ethnic minority people outside the ground every home match but turning round and going away because they just can't bring themselves to brave whatever it is that is putting them off. as Hugo has said, they'll have the meeting, chew the cud for a couple of hours and perhaps a couple of initiatives will be actioned. I doubt this will put more than a few on the gate but we live in hope. People who want to go to football generally do. There's nothing to put them off. I remember reading Stan Ternants auto "A hard life in football" He was the manager of Bury for a couple of seasons, probably their most successful period. He was bemoaning their low crowds. He said that Bury had a large minority of Asian people. He introduced an Asian player into the team, hoping the local Asian community would be encouraged to watch the team. He said the crowd increased by about 10: the players parents, brothers and sisters and grandad! You can lead a horse to water........... Bet if we had a Bristol Rovers Cricket team they would come in their 1000s If football is not in their culture, they won't support it like us locals

There is one very interesting aspect of this thread, and that is all of the talk of 'hate', 'dinosaurs', 'telling lies', 'racism', 'kick in the teeth' etc has come from one side of the debate.

I have some Muslim friends who are from Leicester. They support Liverpool from their sofa. Why? they happily admit they cannot be arsed to go to a game when they can watch it at home. So its not about attracting them to games, because they spend lots on Sky so they don't have to go. Well bully for them. Doesn't mean the situation is the same for everyone. Well, it`s pretty much the situation with the Africans, where I work. They all support Arsenal, Liverpool, Man U, Chelsea etc. They only want to be associated with the top teams. They`d laugh their bollox off if you suggested that they part with some of their hard earned, and cheer on the Gas. And yes, I have asked them.

Due to repeated requests to keep the subject on track and the emotive nature of the subject it's probably best that we now close the thread. Both sides have had ample opportunity to raise points and defend their positions. It's clear that all of us are not going to agree and frankly the thread is becoming unmanageable for the Mod team.
Hopefully people can attend the meeting on Thursday 19th April and continue the debate.
