It is pretty embarrassing, but don't forget they were renamed Bristol Shoguns a few years ago when sponsored by Mitsibushi which is arguably worse. This sort of thing happens all the time in Rugby, renaming and relocating. There are not many purpose built rugby grounds in the Premiership these days. There wasn't too much fan protest when Bristol got moved from their 'spiritual home' Really, I seem to remember them suggesting the world was coming to an end, the memorial gates, rovers robbed them, the MEM was left to the rugby club, blah blah blah;, personally, glad to see the back of the ****** lot of them. What really ****** me ff, if the amount of time 20 pence, spends blowing smoke up their backs, far too much time talking about rugby on radio BBC Bristol, the commentator for Bath Rugby never knows when to shut up. “]Ain't the avon packet sposed to have a bear pit, “ The Packet was my local for 10+ years before I moved away and the “bear pit” is just an access area to the cellar, so a nickname. Don’t think the building is old enough for performing bears! IPG cheers for that fella ,i thought it might have happened as im sure they had bear baiting in the hatchet

Id be outraged if i was a rugby fan, one thing being bought by a billionaire, fair enough, but to completely re brand them is a joke. If they were more successful in the premiership then they would have a better fan base, the thing is with Rugby half the teams in the second division are almost amateur filled with college teams. Watching it would be like watching Barcelona play the sh** every week. If our Beloved owner changed our name (and i know he won't) to Bristol Sport (Rovers) section, i would be going bonkers with them, Can't see many of funny shaped ball lovers going bonkers..... A step too far ,that would be the end of my love of the rovers

Would it be possible to legally start another Bristol RFC if the old name is currently redundant and has been seen as obsolete by its owners? Not that I'd want to, but just curious really.... They probably still own the name, often, even when teams go out of business the original name is still the property of the administrator, hence the proliferation of clubs called AFC this or that, to get round the copyright. Someone would have to buy Bristol RFC or whatever the original name was, from Pantsdown, and somehow I can't see him selling it. You could try RFC Bristol I suppose..... A lot of the names of our once proud motorcycle industry were kept by the owners and get sold on often ,some companies even release a few bikes now and then before stropping trading and selling the name on again

I bet Pantsdown would have loved to call them the 'Bristol Pirates' but for obvious reasons couldn't. What else is Bristol historically known for? He could call them Bristol Slave Traders.....that would be more in keeping with the way he does business!!! I heard the RCTDLG say on the radio that he thought up the name Bristol Bears. He mentioned it to his executives and the other people who are involved with the rugby section of Bristol sport, and guess what? Yes, they unanimously agreed it was the way to go. No sh** Sherlock? I wonder what would have happened if one of the rugby employees had said "Well actually, Saint Sir Steve, I think that's probably the stupidest idea since the term was first used was coined? No doubt he would be circulating his CV to various employment agencies. Apparently the Red Cheeked one likes to surround himself with acolytes and yes men who only ever tell him what he wants to hear.

I just had a look on OTIB (often takes inthe bum ) and they seem pretty embarrassed. Having shitloads of money aimlessly pumped in to your club by a billionaire certainly has its drawbacks lol.

When the cricket season is under way Birmingham Bears is the name of Warwickshire's T20 team. Not so original then!
