This is something I think we should have and see that some other clubs have already.
Their remit would be to monitor social media plus local and national press to clarify mistakes or rumours, assist Keith with his excellent interviews and build up a good PR team. They would have board access and would issue statements with their authority as a board member. It would help to keep fans informed and just as importantly, keep the board informed of fans concerns.
They would also take the workload off of SH and Wael in terms of correspondence and act as a focal point for communication channels for all.
I appreciate they cover some of the remit of the fans director (which wasn't that great a success if I understand it right), need to be selective in what rumours are addressed and how, and would be an added expense, but I do feel it would add to the professional image we want to project.

Why do we need a director of communication? We never communicate anything.
We can't afford one.

No. There's no need for a club of our size. The money could be better spent elsewhere. We could go back to the Higgs style monthly newsletter, but it's only a tickbox exercise unless there is something important to communicate.
I'm not convinced the problem is the club's communication and would suggest that it's merely some fans wanting to know anything and everything and whether this rumour or that rumour is true (easy shortcut: the vast majority probably aren't).
When there is something to communicate, such as signings, ticket details, ground improvements(!), etc, it gets communicated. I'm really not sure what else aside from what they do communicate already that we really need to know.

Yep too many fans want to know the ins and outs of a cats arse these days and this really boils over during post season as they’re desperate for a football fix of any kind. |
