I wish him all the best, hopefully a move to Bury will get his career back on track. A nice chap, who showed glimpses of being a decent player on his day but honestly I’m not too fussed that he has left, he was very inconsistent and I think there are better wingers out there with more of an end product.

It's strange the way all our released players always drop down at least a league, it'll be interesting to see if Brown does sign for Pompey, if so, I think he'll be the first to remain in Div 1 since we returned to the league.

Is it? Most of the time we release players it means they are not good enough to get in our team, just starting their careers or are reaching the end of them and so aren’t going to be fancied by other teams in the division. I can’t see how that’s so hard for you to understand topper?

I wish him well and hope he does well but there are better wingers out there. He was never going to get us to the play offs or the top 6 in League 1 even if he had his best season ever. Not good enough to push us on and DC with the signings of Sercombe, Bennett and Upson knew that. Different calibre imo. Friends with Ryan Lowe the Bury manager who he says will get the best out of him. Dare I say Byron should have taken more responsibility for his own play rather than expect the manager to get the “best out of him.” Or am I being a bit harsh with hindsight? Anyway we move on and get better. UTG!

Had a feeling that we could have seen Byron at his best next season, but as has been said, not too much of a loss, good luck Byron hears to happier times for you at Bury.

One of the best team displays was at Molineux I thought but when BM came on he looked dis-interested.Marc Bola's best display I felt.We played well at Wolves and Fulham and they are now both Prem so we have nothing to fear when we go up to the Championship.

I guess Topper expects us to release them and they get picked up by Championship clubs

I've noticed that too. I think it goes to show DC has an eye for a player and shows that he can get the best out of players at the club too.

We signed Bennett from a team who were, from memory, below us in the table when he was released, using your logic he should have only been signed by a Div 2 side.

Surely the fact that none of our players get signed by fellow L1 clubs indicates we are doing the right thing by releasing them? Pompey made a mistake releasing Bennett.

Not sure he was really released, was he? Thought he had his contract bought up and became a free agent in order to engineer his move, otherwise we would have missed the window before it closed.

Slightly different as he was still under contract and only released so that he could finalise a move to us after the Jan window shut. Change of managers, different plans. Nothing to do with Bennett not being good enough. We've had a stable manager for 4 seasons now and he knows better than anyone when out of contract players need to move on, so no surprise when they then drop down a level or two.

Bennett was only released on a technicality to allow him to sign for rovers,he had signed a 3 year contract for portsmouth at the start of last season. With lee brown we dont know if dc offered him a contract or not. In his interview it seems he felt he needed a new challenge so if we take him and dc at face value there was no need to talk about a new deal at rovers.
