Now hang on DC and the Rovers board, you aint playing fair here are ya!?Whats your game ,signing these players ,none of whom have been mentioned by posters on here!and you havn,t given the doom and gloom merchants a chance to moan about no signings yet! its just not cricket!too much good news is going to ruin this site you know! !!!!!!!!! Actually, I think you'll find that nortongashead mentioned Matthews on the 23rd May in the wishlist thread and I mentioned Upson back in March. Well done you two!i will have to pay more attention in future!

I agree with you - it's a big ask expecting a young guy to move up from the National League and slot straight into a League 1 side. Charlie Colkett is a prime example - a young player with, on paper a much stronger pedigree than SM and he struggled to make a real impact at this level. Could he be earmarked for a season or two in the Development squad although it sounded to me that DC had indicated 1st team action to him. Surely competitive conference football is better than development football. Mensah seemed to struggle with the step up last season, Parts less so once he was given a chance?

Thinking about where the new signings fit in, this wouldn't be a half bad team next year: ..................Smith Partington...Lockyer..Broadbent..Craig ............Upson....Lines........... Sercombe........Matthews......Bennett ...............Harrison.............. I'd still like us to sign a LB, RW and a Striker but with the players that we have at the moment this is what I'd like to see. Yeah looks ok, but I would be surprised knowing DC if he puts Matthews in striaght away? I always remember the game the beard had a couple of years ago against Swindon I think? Where he played virtually up front and he scared the crap out of them and he forced a few mistkes as they tried to play out from the back too much. It worked a treat that day but horses for courses I suppose? Playing the beard in a more attacking role might be something to do over the course of the season, DC like to do his homework to plan his projects on a game by game basis it might have just been that he knew that the Swindon defence were capable of making the odd mistake or were uncomfortable on the ball and decided to exploit it with the beard. I don’t think Matthews will initially start, If we sign a right winger then I would put him in the team and move sercombe across to the CAM spot where he can be successful.

He got promoted at LB with Millwall and played extremely well there on the last day against Southend? His experience is really valuable as it rubs off on the other defenders, I think we should bring in another LB for but I wouldn’t mind seeing him there.

I have a feeling OC will be gone soon I hope not. Neither Upson or Matthews are direct replacements in any case. I’m more worried about Sercombe. I think that Sercombe had his Stag do a couple of weeks ago, so he'll be too busy this summer to get involved in a move!

In fact it's not uncommon for the formation/line up to be changed during the game.

Oh well, let’s hope the other quickly assembled national teams are even worse. 😔🙏🏴

Imagine if he was any good eh?

The premier teams have too much cash and are spending on pre madonnas so they have to rotate or they will throw their toys out of the pram

Failings? He's got us two promotions and two solid L1 finishes by changing the team up and adapting to the opposition/experimenting with different styles. I would put good money on us being bottom half L2 if we had just played the same team every week.

Not that it matters, but for the record he's 4 and a half inches taller than Bennett and the same height as Wayne Rooney. Yeah but Rooney is a little balding granny sh*gging fat megarich twat Fixed that for you

Decent signing and good age; although a bit strange Bournemouth were loaning him to conference teams though if supposed Championship and L1 teams were interested? Might have given them a better indication if he was anywhere near the first team...

If so then it’s good to see DC preparing for it instead of just reacting at the last minute, or if it’s too late, not at all. If not then our midfield already looks strong. Good signing who won’t break the bank. Young, eager with some experience fits the DC mould. UTG!
