Omar Bogle is a good shout but if he was available a bit surprising Hurst didn't want to sign him for Ipswich instead of Harrison when you consider how well he did for him at Grimsby.

Ivan Toney would be a fantastic signing IMO and definitely my pick of the "options" along with Devante Cole.
How realistic either are I've no idea.
Negative as it sounds, I'm expecting to be underwhelmed though if I'm honest.

Already signed for Billericay Town last week. That was a prank. He's still available. Unplayable on his day, but definitely not a DC style player. Ah ok, thanks didn't realise that. As you say though, definitely not a DC type player. Lots of ability but lack of desire and application. Only way I would say maybe is if it was on a short term contract.

I do hope we get these players in before the first game, we are so light up front at the moment.
Looking at the other post Devante Cole and Ivan Toney would get me excited, id have confidence in them as well as the lad from Ireland we brought in.
I am hopeful that Nichols comes back looking sharp this season, want to see him fired up, wanting the ball and busting a nut to get in goal scoring positions.

Imagine Devante Cole and Ivan Toney up front together... Both seem good signings on paper. However I bet the finances won't work out. Cole only signed for Wigan in January and Toney if available could probably get a championship club as hes quite proven at League One Level. I reckon we might end up with a loan coming in this late in the day.

With Tommy W having a book full of strikers I would imagine DC is working his way through some of those names and we might see some action end of week. I’d like to a younger, taller centre forward with an eye for goal from non league given a chance. Won’t be too costly and will get opportunities with the width we’ve signed. Two weeks to go so it’s getting a bit more urgent. UTG!

It looks like he's got ahead of himself club's wise as even at P'boro last season he only got 1 gaol in 9 games, I'd imagine Cardiff will be looking to offload him to any club prepared to take him off their hands. What's happened to Eoin Doyle who Pirate(?) recommended previously, a bit on the short side but always scores goals at Div 1 level.

Apparently they paid £400k and want that back to let him leave. At his age and with his potential I think that is good deal. The only problem is I think there would be a few clubs interested. I don't think Toney is quite ready for the Championship yet and another full season at this level would do him the world of good. I'd try and get him on a permanent (anything 400k or under) and if not try for the loan deal.

There are others I would prefer over him if I'm honest. I have to say the idea of a Toney/Cole partnership is quite exciting to me.

I think we're probably setting our sights too high.
If we sign one player like Toney, Cole or Bogle I'd be pleasantly surprised, if we sign 2 I'd be amazed.
I know we need 2 strikers but DC doesn't like loans and to sign these guys would probably cost upwards of 500k each. Can't see us breaking our transfer record twice in the next 2 weeks.

If he would come here then I would be interested but not unsure if he would.

I'll chuck a couple of names in the hat: Scott Wilson - scored 14 goals for Macclesfield last season, 25 years old, just signed a new 2 year contract in the summer. Came up through shithead academy and had a record of over 1 in 2 for WSM a couple of seasons ago. Conor Chaplin - Promising player who's progress has been hampered by the arrival of Brett Pitman last season at Pompey. Very different player to Ellis but potential to imrprove. Never seen Scott play so not sure if he's what we need. But I can say for a fact he is looking for a move back to the Bristol area for personnel reasons.

But if you want good players you have to pay good money. Simple as that. I'm sure his father will tell him how nice a city Bristol is to live in. I don't know if he would be interested, but I would certainly be doing all I could to convince him.

My fear is that we sign no one, one of either Toney or Cole would be a pleasant and welcome surprise. My bigger fear is that we splurge it all more middle management and then have a 'defensive' season. You can see it now, 'with the appointment of our new head of pasty hydration the end of the dry over cooked pasty is merely years away.............' Whatever happens we need a 6ft+ bully with presence in the No9 shirt. As others have said, with a team now set up to deliver from the wings as well as up through the middle, we are toothless in attack and for what its worth you might as well stick Broadbent up there. If not at least drop him in for Craig so as at least we can try and play a ball out of defence, those Locks/Craig long balls are coming straight back otherwise.

Sign Telford long term asap. DC knows what he is getting and the player will already know our squad so gelling shouldn't be an issue. I think he would be a very good signing if given games. We also need a target man type of player where we have lost Gaffney and Harrison who could hold up the ball and were strong in the air. If we don't get height and strength up front then it will be a difficult season for us. Just my opinion. Yes there are still 11 days left so there is time to get someone in but I really hope DC has options ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ and that we are already talking to all options. Even if some of these options are loans which DC said he want to avoid. The next 11 days will pretty much decide if we are real top 6 contenders or another mid table finish or fighting for survival in bottom 10. Big 11 days for DC to get it right and for the club to show their ambitions.
Over to you Rovers! Lets do this!

Bogle’s wages are a stumbling block, apparently he’s demanding 7.5k a week to join a new team and looking at his goal scoring record in the championship and league one, that would probably be enough to put me off. Agree with the other posts about Cole and Toney, we need to get something done as soon as possible before the season starts, even if one of them is just a loan.
