Dont think anyone is suggesting Telford to replace Gaffney/Harrison. We need a minimum 2 strikers in before the end of the transfer window. 1 can be Telford and another a big guy who can give us what we have lost with Gaffney/Harrison. Did you not hear DC's interview during last season about Telford? DC was getting him ready for this season as he believed he would be released by Stoke this summer and DC would sign him. But Stoke changed managers and their new manager seems to want to keep Telford now. Just because DC hardly played him doesn't mean he doesn't fancy him. DC in fact rates Telford very highly. As for the obsession part. No, not obsessed with him. Just makes sense where he is highly rated by DC, he knows our club and our set up and would easily fall into place. Like you said he showed moments of class, imagine what he can do if he was starting every game? So its not an obsession, just makes sense. Telford didn't want to come back as he isn't very fond of DC. Or perhaps neither get on with each other and so there's no chance of him returning, if so, it's odd both DT's Twitter and Insta profile photos still show him in the quarters. Problem is if we sign DT and a target man then we've no real back up if the latter ever gets injured/has a loss of from etc. Given it's were the big money is, transfer wise, I can't understand why we've seemingly no decent strikers being developed in the Development Squad.

First reply on the thread: "Bristol Rovers and Portsmouth aren't much of a step up from us." LOL

I really don't get the obsession with Telford. Hardly played last season as DC obviously didn't fancy him. Showed moments of class but not enough to warrant starting games let alone signing on a permanent deal. Also doesn't offer anything that Gaffney or Harrison gave us so couldn't replace them in the lineup. Telford is a quality player and will make it at this level given the chance. Hes not a direct replacement for Ellis or Gaffney but he's better than Nichols that's for sure!

Not sure of his current situation but as a short term signing what about Morrison from Millwall? I dont know if we can afford to have short term signings if we intend to do well from the first kick. ill be a little disappointed if we dont have at least one striker through the door before Peterbrough. There has been list or names of players we could go after on this thread alone. Short term I was thinking a season or two. We seem to be hung up on suggesting younger players who could be sold on later for a profit. Of course we could end up with another Nicholls.

I personally didn't see enough from him to make me want to sign him permanently. He's a lot better than the useless Nichols

I personally think that we will sign ONE player and struggle up to Christmas, but by then it will be too late to catch the top 6

We need two strikers in well before the Peterboro game -- Hopefully someone is on the case now. Also if that's all Steve Hamer can come up with would have been better not to say anything. No, we need 2 strikers in before 9th August. Peterborough game is one game.

Well we will get the chance to see his quality at a lower level now he has signed for Bury on a permanent deal

I wonder if we offered him anything. Or maybe he wanted to stay up North West.

I'm not sure, he sounded like he was interested in him at the end of his spell and I don't think he likes to play loanees if he can help it. I think he will do well at Bury. I'm not 100% convinced he suits the modern game, I think he would suit a big man little man partnership but he definitely has enough to do well at that level. Could be one we regret.

I like DT and think he has the makings of a very good striker but once we signed Gavin there was little chance of him coming here

Wasn't convinced by him myself when he did play. Clearly DC thought the same. DC didn't feel the same. Ok maybe he did privately, but publicly he stated many times he rates him very highly and had big plans for him. Maybe, just maybe, we tried to get him back and Telford said no. Or maybe Bury offered more and their bid was accepted and ours wasn't. Just because Telford didn't come to us doesn't mean DC wasn't convinced about him. Just saying.
