Maybe we're just making sure that the path to the first team is not blocked for Spruce and Kavanagh (when fit) ? Neither are ready for first team football just yet, I expect they'll get loaned out to the National League south this season to get some valuable first team experience.

I do think being a gas head should come with a health warning. I'm becoming seriously miffed with the whole drawn out and unsatisfactory process and outcome.

It does and always has come with a health warning. The trouble is that I am sure most thought these days were behind us when Wael took over. The very least I thought was that if the Manager sold players then what we received would go into his transfer pot. Even with a Head of recruitment we seem to be struggling in that area. I would rather we signed players who want to play for us rather than hold out for key targets who only want to play for us if every other avenue has failed.

That is probably the very reason why our transfers seem to be drawn out affairs. DC only wants players who want to play for us, and unfortunately in our current climate, there aren't that many about.

Can't believe that a player who really wants to play for Bristol Rovers would drag out talks so he misses the deadline to play tomorrow unless DC had told him he wouldn't be playing tomorrow anyway. Why oh why if it is the Walsall bloke who only scores a few goals anyway could this not have been tied up earlier? Seems to me we are going to be struggling up front the whole season if this is the best DC with Waels backing can do!! I await with eager anticipation for next week but please make it Monday and not bother if it has to drag on to the deadline. Go for somebody else for godsake. We have gone from mattys near 30 goals a season to Bodins what probably would have been 20 last season and now from Ellis's 14 to possibly a bloke who has managed even less!! Oh well I suppose 50 years of being a gashead I should be used to being taken for a ride! cant wait for your write tomorrow if we lose I reckon we should make a bid for the bloke called "Sombody else", he sounds just the ticket to me. We can then all slag him off because he is sh*te, have a pop at the recruitment guy, have moan about how crap we are at buying players, and then have a go at the manager for losing the plot, and question why the hell he signed that big sh*te centre forward "Sombody Else" for not being good enough.
Happy days all round, lets try and get Elsey in early next week.
Fits the bill perfectly.

Why did you think that all of a sudden transfer monies would be fully reinvested in the team? Genuine question, as I don't recall the board/owners ever making that claim. As for players wanting to play for us, ideally yes, but I wonder whether this is (with perhaps the odd exception) just a quaint idea these days. Darrell is on record as saying that money is the biggest factor on where a player goes and to be fair, how many of us would be any different? In this particular case of course, if there has been a delay we have no idea what the reason for that is. Anyway, let's stay calm and do what Gasheads used to do best by getting behind the team. I agree we are a tad short (in numbers and in height!) tomorrow and probably shouldn't expect anything from what is a very tough game (with or without a new player) but it's only one game of 46 and the result tomorrow won't determine our season.

Add to that, if Sunderland, Portsmouth, Charlton, Bradford are after the same players as we are, what exactly have we got to entice them to join us rather than them?
Apart from DC's enthusiasm and ambition, not a lot else.
Unless we start spending more on transfers and offering players higher wages than everyone else in this division we aren't going to get the first dibs on players.
Like I said, its not surprising that our signings seem to be drawn out affairs.
I was a bit harsh when I said it was water poor that we hadn't got anybody in before tomorrow. Still bloody frustrating though.

I had heard we were trying to sign Amadou Bakayoko from Walsall for between £150-200k. Would fit the bill if true. Saw the Twitter rumour. Someone tweeted recently that Wael said, it is not him though. Most the player's linked with us, have not been league 1 players. Any other suggestions anyone???

Tom Eaves seems the most likely to me. Could be him. He's been injured thigh hasn't he and is a doubt for tomorrow's game for them. DC said the player works be available to play Saturday, if signed in time. Could have been one of DC's bluffs though! Think the player it is, has changed loads of times now lol

Everyone will be saying it's because we are signing him. Have you seen him play over the last few seasons? Would you sign him? Honestly, he wouldn't be on my list of targets and I've never really rated him. I was speaking about him with a friend the other day actually and he really likes him and would go for him, where as I'm not so keen. He is certainly a better option than some of the ridiculous names mentioned today though. I've seen him a couple of times over the past couple of seasons and I thought Locks and Craig handled him particularly well last season at the Mem. His touch and control really looked poor that day and didn't really hold the ball up or look a threat on goal to me, but could've just been an off day. However, I've read on here how some thought he played well that day...football 'eh, all about opinions. You can't really argue with his goal record last season in fairness, but was that just a one season wonder? It wasn't so long ago he was struggling to score for Yeovil (4 goals in 40 games in League Two during 16/17) and was released by them. Unless we can get a Cole or Toney in (seems unlikely), he might be the best option we've got left in this country at this stage of the window.

I don't know how much they would ask for, he wouldn't be on my list anyway. Why would he move sideways? As DC alluded to in the past...money talks.

I’m not sure we’ve got it right yet.
If I was forced to put money on it I’d say it’s Cole. Because:
- the rumour. - and that the player were in for hasn’t come out the other end. People knew about Elis a couple days before it happened. I’d imagine, it would happen elsewhere too. If
