Getting back to the original question, I think that as a big football fan, Wael wanted to improve his FIFA credentials and persuaded his family of a decent investment opportunity both in interest repayments and ancillary projects. He may also have a desire to show football can be built in a sustainable way, such as the Development Squad and looking for a lower league side to improve.
My reading of it, and I have posted this before so apologies to those bored with it, is that the plan was to build the UWE with new investment money and sell the Mem with the proceeds covering the acquisition costs or put towards the new stadium or training ground.
All was going nicely (we signed Secombe and Nicholls for decent money for example and recruited the Development Squad and associated coaches).
Them the Uwe fell through. My view is that the investment returns needed did not add up to cover what was needed (investor intetest and a profit to build up the team) and a decision had to be made.
Fast forward to now and we see little if any further investment. Again, purely speculation on my part, but until a firm plan is signed off in private then no details will be forthcoming. More immediate to us as fans is that until any future plans are agreed and the funds are released, then certainty of income is just not there so the cash had dried up, hence the little for DC or infrastructure projects.
My one saving grace is Wael giving up his Jordanian FA role to concentrate on us. This suggests to me that something is being worked on in private. Whether it is a good thing or not we will find out in the fullness of time.
In the meantime we speculate (and in the process wind up each other).

Its surprising so many believe that they saw an investment opportunity in the UWE and that was the main driver for buying the club.
I have said before and will say it again- if that is the case then how come they got so close to purchasing Gillingham where there was no opportunity for a new stadium?
I can't help but feel that they never had the money for a stadium in the first place and were looking for a club down on it's luck as a cheap entry into the world of football so Wael could play at being chairman. They then moved the goalposts with UWE (hotels, freehold etc) until the deal became untenable and then let it slide.
Wael comes across like he means well but personally I won't have any belief in them being the right people to take us forward until we actually build something because I just don't believe that DS has the money to build a training ground let alone a stadium.
We may have lost the fag packet maths of Higgs and invested in a middle management structure that gives a misleading veneer of professionalism however when you drill down to the core not much has really changed. We are still pretty potless with the playing side run on a shoe string and no resolution to our stadium and training ground issues in sight.
With a lick of paint in the bars and electronic turnstiles DS are merely re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Don't get me wrong, I said at the time and several times since, I never thought they bought us because of the Uwe plans and for the reason you suggested. It was a bonus that they hoped they could make work. I would respectfully disagree that this was just to play chairman. There had to be some financial gains otherwise it becomes a costly hobby or an expensive way to ingratiate himself with his peers.

Just out of interest where will we stand next year when our debt exceeds our one major asset. Our red "friends" seem to continually use the phrase "asset stripping" Good that our supporters trust the City82ers more than they do our own owners. Too many people talking crap about something they know nothing about because its the holiday season. I wouldn't blame Wael & Co if they did sell up and bugger off to be honest. The loyal supporters who saw us through the Conference period and back to League One seem to have disappeared and been replaced by a plethora of moaning whinging plastic supporters who would be better in place at Ashton than singing Irene at the Mem. We are Rovers supporters, we're faithful and true, we'll always follow the boys in blue.....really?? I hope DC and Co don't read this column, I expect they would wonder why they bother.... So you still happy with the bods?

I've been an employee in several companies where this kind of scenario has played out, and what tends to happen is that the business bimbles on for a bit, slowly losing good people, before someone else comes in with a similar idea and the cycle plays out again, and again.
