Last night I had a happy clapper next to me. Now, many many years ago, I was at Orient. I cannot remember the year but GD was chairman. Behind me was a father and son, who was about 17. Orient scored and he began crying, no, wailing. I couldn't believe it. However I think he has grown up and last night he was stood next to me. He said, the new stand looks good, and I said yes it does, just a shame it has to have so many pillars. At this he said I know your sort you are so negative about this club. Of course I just replied, pillars. But he then went on to tell me how great DC has been at bringing our young players through to the first team. At this I said, you are wrong, and I think he then started to shake a bit.
But he said, Lines, and Clark both brought through. Of course I said they were both here before DC, and the fact was DC has imported most of "his" players. Now I know I am right about Lines, that is obvious, but I am not so sure about Ollie Clark, I think it was Ward who gave him his debut. Am I right or wrong?
I promise not to cry, or as last night, sulk

Ollie Clarke made his debut at the end of 2010/2011 season.
So the bloke was right, you are overly negative about everything Rovers.

Managers can't control who does or doesn't come through the youth setup, they've enough on their plate with the first team (and most aren't around long enough!).
What they can control is improving the players they have, whether home grown or bought in. On that score I'd say DC has a very good record.
Re home grown players that's the job of others at the club, and I believe we've made good strides under the Al Qadi's, still a lot more to do, but there are bigger picture problems outside our control with youngsters getting poached.

Ollie Clarke was appearing on benches when Paul Trollope was manager and was given bits by a few before DC.
However- what is it to really bring through a player? Surely, it should involve more than merely giving a debut? There isn’t much skill to that. What DC did has done with Ollie Clarke is help develop him into the player he is today.
So, it’s a weird point. Has DC bought through many from the academy? Not really, but he has been at the helm whilst a development side was set up, and has shown huge enthusiasm to give chances to players like Luke Russe- where possible.
RE: Ollie Clarke, he may not have given him his debut but he can only deserve praise for how Ollies career has gone. So I’d say you have had a debate whereby somehow you have both lost...

You are right, he hasn't really brought through many young players from the youth team. Mainly because our youth team was pretty much torn up in the cost cutting after we went out the league.
He has, however, developed the players he has brought in, some of whom were young.

Last night I had a manic depressive next to me. Now, many many years ago, I was at Orient. I cannot remember the year but GD was chairman. In front of me was a bloke who looked like the love child of an unholy union between Bella Emberg and the Hulk. Orient scored and he began crying, no, wailing. I couldn't believe it. However I think he has grown up and last night he was stood next to me. He said the new stand looks sh1t. He moaned about it having so many pillars. I said it's not too bad. He moaned about having to queue up to get his ticket, the sausage rolls were too expensive, the tea was too hot....on and on. I just happened to say things are not that bad. At this he said I know your sort you are a happy clapper rose-tinted glory hunter of a fan. He then went on to tell me how crap DC has been at bringing our young players through to the first team. At this I said, you are wrong, and I think he then started to shake a bit.

The stand does have too many pillars on the front facing the pitch but not on the side. Why didn't they put it up sideways? At least then it would only have the one corner post to worry about.
