These were queuing back to the stadium ground gates yesterday. The season ticket readers were being very stubborn. At one point I thought having joined the queue with 15-20 mins to spare that I would miss kick off. Luckily it picked up in bursts
On top of this, generally crowd management via this gate is poor. Often people queue up via the first two turnstiles and don’t section off for the right 4 (of which only 2 or 3 usually open up), which should be encouraged by stewards. With the new digital readers could they not be double manning the gates?

Makes a mockery of having modern card readers.

With the new digital readers could they not be double manning the gates? Yeah, bloke in the booth said that they were working but going very slow. One bloke kept waiting for the electronics to work, but the bloke in the booth next to him gave up and just resorted to checking cards and letting us in manually, which seemed to work faster. And yeah, the hairpin bend on the way to the turnstiles seems to cause a bit of a jam even when it's not that busy, and people perfectly reasonably waiting to go into the turnstiles on the left, block the way for people wanting to head right. I agree it just needs a steward to direct people to each turnstile. Or instead of opening the two turnstiles on the right and the two on the left, just open four on the right. That way everyone needs to go round the hairpin before deciding on a turnstile.

It was strange. Only three turnstiles out of six operating, giving access to three different areas; Dribuild Terrace, Dribuild Stand, Family Stand. Let's be clear. We don't have electronic turnstiles. We have old mechanical turnstiles and card scanners. I'd be prepared to bet that those little boxes only register if it's a genuine ST or not, and not to whom it's registered and perhaps even which part of the ground it applies! Certainly more turnstiles need to be open for the next game.

They only had 4 Turnstile open on the West Enclosure side and a queue was forming, but there is a steward on the gate who always takes the initiative and starts checking tickets and letting people in through the gate. Top man. Saving me from an even worse soaking.

The club missed out on selling 3 hot drinks because we got seated just seconds before the KO and I don't ever queue for drinks in the interval because it can take ages to get served.

Most automated turnstiles are full height at other grounds I have been to, and even then they are invariably manned

The club missed out on selling 3 hot drinks because we got seated just seconds before the KO and I don't ever queue for drinks in the interval because it can take ages to get served. I was lucky that I was able to get in about 10 mins before kick off, but that the drinks queue was just short enough that I was able to pop to the gents, grab a drink and make my way down to the terraces before the match started. I expect the short drinks queue had a lot to do with the delays, and a source of revenue loss for the club. I don't think anyone is to blame for these problems, as its standard teething stuff, and I didn't start the thread just to have a good whinge (I think the new turnstiles will be a step forward when things work correctly). There are a few opportunities for process improvements here (split the queues - have someone in control of making sure people are queueing appropriately and traffic is stable) but also an opportunity for someone to have responsibility to monitor this stuff and take action when things aren't going well (open up extra turnstiles - decide to slacken up entry criteria i.e. just show the card). As we really shouldn't have queues with this new system. Regards blocking at the gates, there's nothing to stop the club trying to split people going via the stand entrance queue and the terracing queue to get stuff moving quicker with one of those seatbelt style temporary fence things you get in airports.

In the past with paper tickets, you could show said ticket to steward on the gate in the East stand, say I'm going in the shop and he'd happily show you through the gate.
Once in, people could pass tickets through the fence and they could enter for free.
Not sure if these cards stops that.

No, we sit in the South stand, most games we'd go in the shop about 2.30 show our ticket (not at the turn-stile!) at the gate, at the end by the shop, and they just let you walk through.

No wonder the announced gate wasn’t that great yesterday if a steward was letting people through a gate, I think there’s counters on each turnstile which when are all totalled up gives you the attendance figure.
