Its not Henbury whose being a twat. You, who talks about caravans without hagving a clue about what they are being used for. I have done something similar when I was contracting in the 1990's. Let me ask you this, if you were a self employed tradesman and you were offered a 3 month contract working 100 miles from home would you stay in digs at £40 a night or stay in a a caravan for nothing? If you decided on a caravan, would you take one worth thousands of pounds or would buy an old van for a couple of hundred. You need to wake up to the real world. Not e everyone works in a 9 to 5 job close to home. That was the bloody 90’s! CDM laws came into force in 2012 and were updated to the latest edition in 2015. People living in caravans on the side of the road is there prerogative but I read it as those caravans were being provided by the contractor not the workers themselves. Well thats a first, building firms providing caravans, get real, has never happened and never will, because of the laws you mentioned, which by the way, dont apply to privately owned caravans.

Just thought I'd post this as some might find it interesting:
"The world's first leisure trailer was built by the Bristol wagon & Carriage Works in 1880 for Dr. William Gordon Stables, a popular author of teenage adventure fiction, who ordered a "gentleman's caravan".

I wonder if that eventually became Bailey caravans Greg’s?

I wonder if that eventually became Bailey caravans Greg’s? That I don't know. From memory I believe the wagon and carriage works went through Lawrence hill in the direction of what is now Gardner Haskins. I think the carriage works were closed with the nationalisation of the railways after the war, but that doesn't necessarily mean they wouldn't have been used for something else....
