All the best gc,glad it was done now so he can get some good players in hopefully and continue the good work My worry is when the honeymoon period is over what he will be like under pressure,no win situation for the board as could go tits up with anyone People moaning on here is disrespectful to gc,seems to have the right attitude so let the man do his job the passion is there His career is on the line as well as our l1 status so let’s get behind the nick

Yes, but like I said, lets see how he gets on after the honeymoon period is over. Will the players still buy into his methods and philosophy when that bounce effect has worn off? For all our sakes I certainly hope so and I wish him the best of luck. UTG Agreed, but at least a decision has been made now so we can concentrate on the team. Despite our recent improvement in results it's clear that major issues with the squad remain, we must bring at least a couple of reliable goal scorers in during this window and that means we have to get some players out. GC's first test is going to be recruitment and how he handles the window, the next few weeks are going to be very interesting indeed. UTG Agreed. What the Burton game showed was that the players are still capable of putting in as poor a performance as ever, so doesn't give them a reason not to try and strengthen in this window. Maybe if we'd won the 3 games all in Jan then it would have been a good excuse to stick with what they have. Anyway, i've got no problem giving someone who has got the team picking up points the job for at least til the end of the season

Congratulations GC. I hope he manages to bring in players to fill the places he has identified as our weaknesses soon and not leave it until the window is about to close and take panic signings. He should look to ship several players out, even if its out on loans. His knowledge of league 1 players is crucial. Lets hope he has some good contacts in the game

Whilst I'd be happy enough with GC being appointed and agree with much of the support shown here on this thread there hasn't been any official announcement yet.
I'd suggest we exercise caution before believing everything posted on the Evil post website. It may turn out to be true that GC gets the post but at the moment it's just one very unreliable website reporting on this.
Let's wait for the confirmation before taking this as gospel or have I missed something?

Fully prepared to back GC til the end of the season
He talks the talk, lets see if he can walk the walk
I'll take those ten points and if he delivers another ten in the next 3-4 weeks we shall pretty much be out of the mire
He seems gas material, a down to earth battler with underdog spirit
So let's get behind him and the squad and live to fight another season in L1

I think it's the right choice or really GC didn't leave them much choice. Ten points from five games taking us out of the bottom four. If they had appointed someone else and we got relegated they would be slaughtered. We may still drop, but at least they can say they had a basis for appointing GC. Anyway the guy has put his future on the line and delivered under pressure so imo he deserves the job.

I suppose you can do all the interviewing you like but GC has proved himself in a five game on the job interview. Good luck to him. At worst he seems like a nice bloke with a passion for football and rapidly growing love of the club.
Hopefully he'll bring some of the flair of one of our great Irish personalities at the club. The flying winger that was Miah Dennehy

He's taken 10pts form a possible 12pts that must have involved some good tactics, regardless he's had to work with DC's players which included no left footed wingers and two main strikers who'd struggle to score in a brothel. A scrappy win against 10-man Fleetwood, a win against Walsall who had previously won 1 game out of 8 in the League, a win against a very poor Oxford side and a dire performance in the draw with Burton full of long ball football. Lets see how he gets on after the honeymoon period is over. Not only have we found a new manager, we've immediately found a replacement for Midland Gas. The king is dead... Long live the King

And ground breaking territory... appointing our first ever foreign manager.
Will he need a work permit after the 29th March🤔

Glad he has been given the chance to push on , nobody can have any moans with what he has achieved so far . Yes it is the cheap option but if he can prove himself then why Not for the foreseeable future. With a bit of backing from the board I think a mid table finish would be possible , everyone has to start somewhere

I'm not a troll like Midland Gas and I simply call it as I see it. Mate? I suppose it sounds a bit disengenuous to put the bloke down when he clearly has a passion for the game. He has the qualities of a leader looking at his past record and getting an idea of his personality from the interviews I've heard. The Ben Garner guy appears to falling into the trap of becoming the most qualified manager to have never managed a football club. If I was him I don't think I'd make too much of my diploma in the psuedo science of Neuro linguistic Programming or experience in educational Middle management. He probably needs to take his self down the ladder and see if he can be a leader of men. That is be the bloke who can honestly say the buck stops with me. Thats a big step to take as he's no doubt been well renumerated in the roles he's had at good football clubs.

He may well be the cheapest option, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I suspect that more to the point is that he is less than a gamble than the likes of Garner, who I suspect was just the right man at the wrong time. Coughlan's done enough to be given a shot at it. He has simplified things for the players and the results have been good. I hope he has enough about him to develop the style of play to something a little more progressive in time, but fully accept this is secondary to his primary aim this season of keeping us in this division. And he's not Cotterill! Good luck GC. Yes he’s likely to be the cheapest option, a bit like Trolls and DC were, lets hope, if it’s true, that he has the same effect! good luck GC. And of course likely to be cheaper than McGhee, Buckle (?) and many others. Let’s hope he’s luckier😉! UTG!

you will get used to it, first twenty years are the worst. Come on clockend, you know that’s not true!😉 I found the 60s and 70s ok, and late80s and 90s not too bad, it was the noughties that it really got cr**. The last 20 years have been the worst with a slight improvement over the past 4. UTG!

I don't get the love in for a coach who's never played or coached outside the Championship, does he know anything about football at this level? Surely if he wants to manage at this level his first job should be as Assistant Manager to somebody who knows the league inside out even DC served his apprenticeship under JW. He’s been a chief coach and around the league 1 scene for 10 years. Coach / assistant Manager doubt if there’s too much difference in our leagues. Blimey let’s not complicate what is a really a very simple business. He’s obviously got his own ideas, he’s very passionate and has his ideas of how to play and get the best out of what we’ve got. To imply and ask if he knows anything at this level is frankly insulting to the man when he’s been here for ten years. DC did serve his apprenticeship under JW and GC has served his apprenticeship under several bosses. As for not getting the love. I don’t think anyone “loves him” but we do appreciate what he’s done over a short period of time and for that he has earned the right to have be permanent boss, if the reports are true. UTG!

Like McGhee, or John Ward?? Experience does not guarantee anything. I agree I'm not sure about the long term, but this season is all that matters for now. If he's not progressing us after that, then we can get rid of him. Doubt he's going to be on that much and that long a deal. McGhee and John ward are also examples of managers who turned things around when they first arrived but struggled massively the following the season. My fear is this could happen with GC. There is always a natural bounce when a manager leaves and a new one takes over. Yes I can understand that reaction as opposed to some others and it’s a good point. But whoever is appointed there’s no guarantees of success. I feel that he’s earned it. UTG!
