I don't believe this competition will in anyway lead to Premier U-23s joining the lower leagues.
The EPL asked, got voted NO
The EFL then invited the EPL U-23s to join THEIR cup, in an attempt to liven it up somehow.
I see not one single shred of evidence this will lead to U-23s gaining entry to lower league football.
Harvey is already on record saying catergorically that this isn't the case

Harvey is already on record saying catergorically that this isn't the case That's not strictly true. The EFL asked the EFL clubs whether U23s could join the cup and the EFL clubs said no. Then they came back with more money. So I would suggest that intrinsic to you post (if you'd got it right) would be the idea that they will keep asking for U23s to join the league until they get the answer they want. Also, Harvey's a liar, we all know that.

Well, I can only go by the EFL Checkatrade cup page, and they refer to the U-23s as "invited".
If the EPL pushed so hard to be part of the cup, why did so may not even enter a team??

I don't know. If they weren't pushing hard, why would they come back with more money? Can find absolutely nothing on line to say that they did Prize money was increased from £1.9M to £3M. It's in dozens of reports online.

Heard that a few fans who do not support the competition, still came to the Mem for the group stage games to buy a 50/50, pint and a pasty.
Sounds the perfect compromise if you live close enough and still want to support the club.
I would guess you could drink throughout the game if the shutters are down and you can't see the pitch.
If someone stayed till after the game and watched it on screen soccer highlights, I don't think that would mean they have sold out on their principles.
I am sure the club would appreciate the extra bar sales if someone was not attending the game anyway.

Bit surprised at the amount of people now talking about winnable ties and a potential good day at Wembley etc that doesn't come along often.
Forgive me but I'd rather wait and see Rovers at Wembley again in 20 years time than see them play infront of crowds of 600 away to Manchester United B on the regular
I'd even argue the 400k or so you get in total from going all the way and winning the JPT wouldn't even get reinvested into the team.
Edit: This was based of the 1.9M figure but apparently the total prize pool is 3M now. Point still stands.

This article explains the prize money and the fact Lincoln City earned £500k for the trip to Wembley. The only bit I don't understand is semi final prize money. I suppose the winners of the semi finals will be awarded with a wembley trip and gate receipts / winners runners up prize. But what about the semi final losers ( no mention of prize money ) ?. All I know is a win against Vale will push our income to £150k plus .. www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/how-much-checkatrade-trophy-worth-1970246

It does make you wonder why GC suggests the trophy is just for the players & fans as £500K upfront, rather than in annual instalments, seems an hell of sum for a club like ours. Looking at PV's league form we really should now be just a semi final tie away from picking up that prize money.

Hopefully GC will take it seriously & put out a strong side as the financial rewards are pretty impressive for the club in our position at the moment.
