I’m assuming menayese will step up or maybe we won’t get a CB, move parts or James Clarke too CB if needs be?

Would be incredibly disappointed if true. especially if it is - A transfer and not a loan, and/or - We aren't getting another big commanding Centre half in to replace him and improve the squad

Wouldn't be fussed. Not as good IMO as others seem to think he is.

I don’t even want this as a loan signing...

We need another cb of his size tho, Lockyer Craig and Clarke are short and Partington is just a little weed. I hope his leaving means another cb is coming in

If it was permanent the board have messed up big time as he could be a fantastic first team regular given game time and win important headers and has a football brain...it would be typical of us to let him go

The one person at the back who can pass the ball. Inexperienced. but a good player in the making. Would be a shame to let him go.

Surely it's possible that it was neither the boards decision or GC's. It could be Broadbent who has asked to leave or go out on loan. If you read Hargreaves interview in the BP he clearly says that they don't want any players to leave:
"If you want to leave because you don't feel you're getting enough games or you feel you need to protect your family and your future then we're all men, we would listen to it because we don't want to stand in people's way.
"Conversely, if there's a player that we think can help us dramatically, we'd have to look at it and the squad as a whole would expect that, that's what the game is. It's trying to win football matches and they understand that but I don't want to see any player leave the football club because we want to work with them and we think they can benefit the club.
In some instances it's out of our hands, again that's football."

Shame if he goes but don’t think he’s ready yet for our circumstances. A loan would be ideal ready for him to step into Craig’s boots in the summer. But a move elsewhere makes sense

I think chris hargreaves pre match interview covers this subject pretty well. Since craig and lockyer have been the regular central defensive pair we have let in a lot less goals than before. We got thrashed by doncaster but apart from that most of our issues have been about not scoring goals. Last season we had a string of heavy defeats some of them with broadbent playing. The issue for coughlan is who does he rate most out of broadbent or menayese as cover for craig/lockyer. If the answer is menayese its better for tom broadbent to go. People bang on about needing massive centre halves etc but the real issue is about having good centre halves and we have 2 decent ones in my opinion.

It might not be who has rates more but who wants 1st team football more. I could imagine mayo is content with a place on the bench as he is still very young. Broadbent is 27 this year and I'm sure he will be wanting to ensure he has a future somewhere.
