At risk of cheesing off GGMI, Lockyer-Beckenbauer was exposed for all to see yesterday. Head goes down, like a lost dog. That said, we have a team that have morphed into boys overnight for some reason...a few were boys before the morphing.

You have to at some point drop Lockyer.
No player is undroppable, it's what DC learned to his cost, and if your captain has a poor run of form, then imo you must surely look elsewhere?
I would relinquish captaincy from Locks. He's held it too long without question.
Perhaps it's time we looked elsewhere for leadership if the best we've seen was a Saturday with heads down v Wycombe.

Hahaha. Craig? He couldn't lead a f**king dog across my lawn! As an exiled Gashead I rarely get to see us live. I’m interested in your view on Craig and that it is supported. Do you think he’s lost his chutzpah? He was a very successful captain at Millwall and a natural fighter, and it seems odd to me if he has lost all those qualities. Personally, think Craig has had a good season and invariably, if you want a comparison, has a better game than the captain.

Unfortunately Lockyer is not a great leader, organiser or motivator, therefore he should not be match captain. He could and perhaps should be Club captain, but on matchdays it has to be someone else. Sercombe perhaps, Craig maybe, Ollie Clark even, but not Lockyer.

I could be more constructive but I’m going to go for the he’s a uninspiring drip! Not captain material whatsoever! Move over and give the armband to Tony Craig, James Clarke or Ollie Clarke! UTG! Is this the classic he doesn't shout at people enough thread? It's up to 4 pages so fair play. Leadership takes many forms, his approach with younger players, his professional habits, how he conducts himself away from the club, being a calming influence if things aren't going well to name but a few. That's the role of the captain and imo Lockyer is very effective at that. Unless you know otherwise? I'm assuming what you actually want to see is a Stuart Pearce type on the pitch barking at players. Mansell was the last player that did that and we miss it sorely. However, taking the captaincy away from a well respected player and currently the only player in the squad playing international standard football doesn't solve that issue as our team is devoid of a Mansell type player. UTG

Lockyer and sercombe are easily the 2 best players at the club.
The only good point a poster brought up on this thread was about the captain needing to be good at talking to the ref. I believe mansell was very good at that.

UTG We're in the bottom 4 and the second manager we've had this season is suggesting the players aren't interested in playing, perhaps he wants to stop being a calming influence and start kicking his teammates up their backsides, in order to wake them up before it's too late. Incidentally what good does playing International football (basically just playing in friendlies when the first choice CB's wants a rest) do for our league position?

Lockyer and sercombe are easily the 2 best players at the club. When 100% fit and played in his correct position Holmes-Dennis will come into that category.

Maybe the manager could do that too, maybe the other "leaders" in the team could also do it, maybe the players just aren't very good so no amount of kicking them up the backside will help. Playing international football exposes you to training with and playing against elite players. It's all part of the learning curve that provides experience which will inevitably help the team. (It's also a disruption ethe match day squad which is really annoying)!

No idea how long until he will be 100% fit, but he hasn't completed a full 90 minutes in over 18 months so he's got to be a little way off yet.

Bit of a puzzle is our centre back position. Firstly they looked more stable with introduction of Craig which offered a bit of leadership but seems to have dropped away. Is this because he's being overlooked as captain and wonders what he has to do to get the role. Introduction of Bonham improved things which - IMO - was more to do with the backline having confidence in what was behind them regardless of whether he's a good keeper or not. Again, that has seemed to drop away. Locks always comes back to pick up the ball. Fair play for that but if the forward pass is more than 20 yards it either goes out or to the opponents, doesn't matter how good the defence is if you keep giving the ball away. Broadbent could pass a ball but never knew when it was best to clear into row z..... sorry d, we haven't that many rows. Seemed to have a couple of games last year when there seemed to be respect between him and opponents he was marking and ref left them to get on with it. From Memory MK and the original dons (As I said, from memory) That equals captain material.... or did. THD. Looks a potential Paul McGrath. If we can get that out of him and have him playing more advanced that will do me. I've not answered the question have I?

He will perform and put in the same amount of effort whether he's wearing the pointless armband or not.

Do you not think a keeper should be catching a ball in the six yard box? It was about two or three yards from his goal line. i know that doesn't fit the narrative of trying to scapegoat one of our most committed players and captain

Indeed, the arm band is pointless, 8000 fans are screaming advise, plus 10 team mates, plus however many are on the bench...how much drive and advice from others do these plums need?

I know were in the era of the time filling sky pundits over doing the analysis stuff but i thought wycombe scored a very good goal from a beautifully delivered corner.

Pretty sure in the past we used our FB's to bring the ball forward, or Lines would drop back, now it's just route one, mainly to the crowd!
