I was surprised when we signed a midfielder.
Yesterday- was my first chance to consider why we might have...
First off- he reacted to a tackle and that always puts you in trouble. It could have been 1 out of 10 home debut.
But he stayed on the pitch- and I think offered something that we’ve been crying out for. A “risk taker” he took the ball under-pressure and tried to be positive. He didn’t just kick it on or pass it back to where it where it came from. He’d take the ball into a challenge and progress us from there. Whilst it was 6/10 kinda game from him- you can see how he’ll benefit the team. The risks - “rarely” came off yesterday but they will and we’ll benefit from a little more confidence shown in midfield.

I was hugely disappointed. Thought it was an awful performance.

It’s sometimes the best way to deal with a situation. Too often we’ve deferred the problem by passing far backwards or clipped a hopeless chip long... Sometimes playing in a tight spot is the brave and correct thing to do.

Streets ahead of Lines yesterday. Lines is living off past reputation. Sadly bar the odd good pass, he offers very little these days and is a player I would release as soon as possible. As for Ogogo, I like him and think he will be a good signing.

He needed someone along side him to help him out with the tackling and break up of play.
He was also totally being baited by Shrewsbury who clearly knew how to wind him up. Had Upson played alongside him I think he would have looked way better but we would all slaughter GC for being too defensive at home. Lines is way past his “sell by” date and he did little yesterday to support in what was a real midfield scrap at times.
I think we have a very good player and we need to stick with him...let’s see how he gets on against Pompey and Sunderland .

I thought he had a poor game yesterday and didn't look any better than what we've already got, although it was only one game and hopefully there is better to come from him. It looked like we missed Ollie Clarke yesterday and I expect him to come straight back into the team for either Ogogo or Lines, who also had a poor game.

Ogogo and Clarke surely must be the combination especially away from home? At home, personally rather than Lines coming back in I would rather see Sercombe come inside and we do something different onthe left.

Streets ahead of Lines yesterday. I’m pretty sure bonham had more touches than lines, and my Nan made more tackles than him. Blokes a bottler

Ogogo and Clarke is probably the way to go away from home, they seemed to do a good job at Southend and dominated the game, especially first half. For me Sercombe should always play centrally or not at all. He looks lost on the left and that is still a position we could do with strengthening. I'm surprised we didn't bring in a wide left player during the window and I'd try to bring in a free agent if possible.

I was laughed off the forum in the summer when I said I thought Lines was past it, and would have got rid of him in the summer.
Fast forward 6 months.......

Feel like I didn't see much of him yesterday to form an opinion but I'm hoping he'll be a decent player for us.
Does make me wonder how Sincs and Upson are going to get any game time though.

Unfortunately we're going to have to do without Ollie at Pompey, but he'll be back for the Sunderland game. Assuming Ogogo doesn't do anything silly at Pompey, a midfield of Ollie and Ogogo vs Cattermole and Power should be fun.

Ogogo was poor yesterday. Caught in possession numerous times and lucky to stay on the pitch. Certainly not worth more than a 5/10.
He had a decent game at Southend so I'm hoping there is more to come and it's not another Payne situation where he only plays well in his first game. Worrying thing is, that's exactly what happenned with Ogogo at Coventry.
Lines was just as bad, too many backwards and sideways passes 5/10.

Streets ahead of Lines yesterday. Kevin Street wasn't very good at all. Don't know how you can say that.

Ogogo was awful yesterday. Has the worst first touch of any midfielder in our squad. Time and time again his poor first touch put him in trouble meaning he had to lunge in to win the ball back. Should have been sent off without a doubt. IL reserve judgement until he's had a few games but on yesterdays performance he's no better than Sinclair.

Age catches up with everyone. Think he can still give us something, until the end of the season. But I think we should release him then. Another season and he will be even less mobile.
